Hertford County is located in The Coastal Plain region in North Carolina. The county was founded in 1759 from parts of Bertie County, Chowan County, and Northampton County. Hertford County took its name from Francis Seymour Conway; the earl and late marquis of Hertford County.

The Hertford Board of County Commissioners is made up of 5 members. Appointed by Board of commissioners, Loria D. WIlliams is the county manager. Loria's mission is to demonstrate a good return for tax dollars by delivering services that exceed the performance standards of the citizens that receive them. She wants to motivate Hertford County's workforce to consistently excel in those services. Below is a picture of Ms. Loria D. Williams. Come visit her at the next Board of county commissioner's meeting! They have two meetings each month. First Monday of each month @ 9:00 a.m. or the third Monday of each month @7:00 a.m.

Winton is our County seat in Hertford County. It was founded as our county seat in 1766. It makes up of 5 council members and the town mayor, Tiffany M. Lewis. With the highest-ranking official in a municipal government, the mayor is elected with majority of votes by the people.
