Causes of the American Revolution
1763-1776
Causes of the American Revolution
The american revolution is all of the colonies refusing to let British control them and protesting against their laws. some social causes of the american revolution is the navigation act, stamp act, and the proclamation line. After the big war the French and Indian war the British were in a lot of debt. so the British tried to put taxes on merchandise to try to get them out of debt.in this time no I do not think the colonists were justified from England because in this was happening in England just the same as there. but know we are not we are a free country.
Navigation Acts
The purpose of the Navigation acts was to put the theory of mercantilism into practice. The two rules that colonists had to follow was that the colonists could only use English or colonial ships to trade, and Only a few enumerated items could be shipped to the empire. According to the reading the sugar act was "A duty was placed on the importation of sugar from the French west indies." "That made the colonists mad because they need to buy costly sugars from the British west indies." The most significant impact of the Navigation Act according to the reading was "The stifling of colonial manufacturing and increasing resentment the mother country."
The proclamation of 1763
After the war of the French and Indian war the proclamation of 1763 was created. According to the reading, King George the third issued the proclamation line because "To avoid more conflict between the american Indians. The colonists were very mad about this because they thought that they deserved to get settle on the land. They were also very mad because they were fighting and lost their loved ones for the land and know the king is not letting them settle on the land. I could see why the king did this and i think it was the right choice because they were already in a lot of debt from a major war and if they got into another major war they would probably loose the land they won at first, because they would not have the funds.
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act taxed anything on printed paper. The Stamp Act was created to "Help protect the colonies and pay debt of the French and Indian war." Sam Adams and the Committees of Correspondence protested by usually refusing to buy things which is called boycotting when they protested. The Sons of liberty was created by Sam Adams and would get some groups of men to protest against the British polices. In the stamp Act Congress, the discussion was about the taxes. King George the third repealed the act in the end.
Quartering Act
Britain "Sent even more troops to keep order in the colonies." in response to the Stamp Act protests. The Quartering Act was a Act that made colonists let the British solders come in to their house and they had to take care of them. The two major issues the colonists had with the Quartering Act was "They lost the rights to their properties and housing the solders cost a lot." according to the reading. The writs of assistance was a search warrant for soldiers to search their house.
Townshead Acts
Some items that were taxed with the Towns head Act was would be tea, glass, and paper. The Daughter of Liberty responded protest to this Act by making their own clothes so they would not have to buy it from the British. The British Government kept taxing tea after the Towns head act was repealed. The sons of Liberty kept responding by protesting using violence.
Boston Massacre
The event that was held on the year of march 5, 1770 was the Boston Massacre. Unarmed colonists were protesting against one of the British solders. The group of colonists started growing rapidly and back up came to the British solider. The protesting colonists started to throw snowballs and that angered the British solders. On of them shot and fired a bullet at the of the colonists and after all of the British solders started firing their rifles at the unarmed colonists. At the end their was five colonists killed at the end. Sam Adams used propaganda to influence the colonists. His cousin on the other hand choose to be the solders lawyers and at the end one the case for them.
Tea Act and Boston Tea Party
The Tea Act was that the British west indies were the only company to sell tea. The colonists were unhappy with the Tea Act because they had to pay import taxes to Britain. The sons of liberty responded to this by boarding teas ships and throwing 342 crates of British tea into the ocean. No one was allowed to buy tea from the french west indies and if they did they would be in trouble. I think that this Act would make that company go out of bigness.
Coercive Act (intolerable acts)
The colonists called the coercive act the "intolerable acts". The four laws that were enforced was "stopped trade form Boston to Britain, did not allow any town meeting, gave Britain control of the colonies, and strengthen the quartering. other colonies responded and stirred the revolutionary spirit.
