Cadmus
Cadmus, the founder of The City of Thebes, slew a dragon and planted its teeth. From the teeth grew angry giants who fought until only five were left. These giants became the fathers of Thebes.
Sophocles
Sophocles wrote the play Oedipus the King.
Laius
Laius, the great grandson of Cadmus, receives a prediction from the Oracle of Apollo that says his son will kill him. Laius and his wife, Jocasta, both abandon their son on a mountainside. Laius and Jocasta also pierce Oedipus feet. Later on Laius is murdered by Oedipus.
Oracle of Apollo
The Oracle of Apollo is a temple that predicts someones fate.
Jocasta
Queen of Thebes and wife of Laius, accompanies Laius in abandoning Oedipus and helps pierce Oedipus' feet. She later ends up marrying Oedipus
Oedipus
Son of Laius and Jocasta, and adopted son of the King Polybus and Queen Merope of Corinth. Oedipus was given to a shepherd. Afterwards the shepherd gave Oedipus to the king and queen of Corinth. Oedipus gets a prediction from the Oracle of Apollo that he will marry his mother so he flees from Corinth hoping to evade the prediction. Oedipus ends up in Thebes and kills the Sphinx, and then ends up marrying Jocasta for killing the Sphinx.
City of Corinth
The royals of this city are King Polybus and Queen Merope.
King Polybus
King Polybus, king of the city of Corinth, is the father of the adopted son of Oedipus. King Polybus and his queen gave Oedipus his name, meaning twisted foot.
Queen Merope
Queen Merope, queen of the city of Corinth, is the mother of Oedipus. She also agreed with her king to name their adopted child Oedipus.
Sphinx
The creature with a women's head, body of a lion and wings of an eagle, was killed by Oedipus when he solved her riddle causing the Sphinx to kill itself.
Thebes
The City of Thebes, founded by Cadmus when he planted the dragons teeth. King Laius and Queen Jocasta rule this city. Oedipus was also born here.
