The Goshen Gazette
Goshen Lane Elementary School Monthly Newsletter
From the Principal, Mr. Graves
September, 2019
Welcome to the first edition of our new Monthly Newsletter the Goshen Gazette. Each month you will receive the newsletter to provide you with information about the school as well as information on how you can support your student and his/her learning throughout the year. We hope you will find the newsletter useful and helpful.
We are off to a very good start this school year. There are several new staff members, new students and even a partially new building. The district has provided Goshen with new flooring and new furniture for all of the classrooms. If you have not been in the school, please stop by to see all of the upgrades.
Now that we have completed the first few weeks of school, I want to provide you with information on our daily procedures as they relate to the beginning of the school day and the end of the day. We have a Visitor Check-in system in the front office which supports the safety and security for all students at Goshen Lane. All Visitors are asked to either wear their Gahanna Employee badge, or sign in at the front office and wear a temporary Visitor badge while in our school. We also use this system for signing in students who are tardy to school and for checking out students early. Therefore, if you are coming into the building after 8:00 a.m. please come in the front office doors and check in with our office staff to receive a badge.
Second, we have Visitor Parking spaces in the front of the building. For everyone’s safety, these spaces are to be clear during the time when our buses are arriving and departing with students. Please help us out by using the student drop off and pick up line in the back of the building by the gym.
Breakfast at school begins daily at 7:30 AM. If your child is a walker or a car rider, please do not send them or bring them to school prior to 7:30 as we do not have staff available for supervision prior to that time. Also, if your child is not eating breakfast at school, he/she should not arrive until 7:50. Students arriving for breakfast will enter the building through the West side building doors that lead directly to the cafeteria and the back hallway of the school. Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. will be asked to enter the building through the main office doors. All exterior doors will be locked at 8:00 a.m.
School to home communication is very important and there are many ways we communicate events that are happening at school. A monthly newsletter will be sent electronically through email as well as being posted on our webpage. The Webpage is another source of updated information where we try to post all upcoming events on the calendar. Included with the newsletter will be a Home & School Connection page with tips and ideas on how you can support your child's learning at home. Some classroom teachers send weekly newsletters as well. If you have questions, please contact your child’s teacher or the office so that we may help you.
I encourage each of you attend our PTA meetings which occur on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the school library. This is a great way to become connected to other parents and become involved in your child’s education.
Finally, please feel free to email, call, or set up an appointment to come in to see me with all great news as well as any concerns you may have. I will do my best to make this year great at
Goshen Lane.
