The Tiger Parent Newsletter
Week of January 16-19
Hello Tiger Families!
We had an awesome week back as our Tigers roared into 2018! Students had the chance this week to go to places and see things from all around the world! Go here to see how your child got there - https://edu.google.com/expeditions/#explore. We also had our Timberline Spelling Bee.
Emily Ihrig, 5th grade, was our first place winner and Karley Blaisure, 4th grade, took 2nd place! Congratulations to these Tigers and to all of those who studied hard and participated!
The Leader in Me Symposium is coming up February 2nd and Timberline students will once again get the chance to show off the leaders they are and the incredible work they do every day!
It's my favorite part of writing this each week to look back at all of the amazing things that go on at our school. Timberline life is the life for me!!
Have a super 3 day weekend! We will see all of our Tigers back on Tuesday!
Proud to be your principal!

Play It Safe!
In order to be proactive in our delivery of health education concerning personal safety and abuse, our district uses several resources and programs for the elementary school health curriculum. These programs and resources will be presented throughout the school year. Parents may preview these programs during parent preview sessions which are scheduled throughout the school year. The GCISD School Health Advisory Council has previewed and recommended these programs for all GCISD elementary schools.
Play It Safe! Personal safety and abuse avoidance - meets the State and Federal guidelines for curriculum addressing personal safety issues. It is presented by The Women’s Center of Tarrant County, Inc. which uses trained volunteers to present the program using videos and scripted discussions at an age-appropriate level for grades PreK - 5.
The Play it Safe program preview for parents will be presented on Tuesday, January 16th, at 10:00 am or 6:00 pm at the GCISD Administration Building - Board Room, 3051 Ira E. Woods Ave., Grapevine, Texas 76051.
The CALA Art Showcase is This Week!
Digital Citizenship Week
GCISD is celebrating Digital Citizenship Week January 9-19. In GCISD, digital citizenship is embedded in the curriculum and revisited any time a class is using technology. In addition, there are two times during the year that we have a district-wide focus on digital citizenship: Back-to-School and in January after returning from the holiday break. We teach digital literacy utilizing Common Sense Education’s K-12 digital citizenship curriculum. Visit https://www.commonsense.org/ for more information about the curriculum and to access Common Sense Media’s parent resources.
Coat Check!
We highly suggest writing your child's name in their coats, gloves, hats, lunch boxes, etc. This helps us get your belongings back to you!
From the Nurse!
Dear Parents,
The health and safety of all students is important to the staff at Timberline Elementary . In an effort to keep our students healthy and in the classroom, I wanted to share a few lifestyle hygiene habits. We can’t keep everyone from getting sick, but we sure can try.
1.) Wash your hands!! Before you eat, after you eat, when you use the restroom, after PE, after you sneeze, anytime you can. When in doubt, wash your hands.
2.) If you cough or sneeze, use your sleeve. (The students can demonstrate this for you;)
3.) Respect personal space. Keep a little distance between you and your friends, and you and your teachers.
4.) Only visit the nurse for things that cannot be taken care of in the classroom. At any time during the day there may be a sick student in the clinic, so the healthiest place to be is in the classroom. Teachers have band aids for little cuts and scrapes.
5.) Wear weather appropriate clothing. If there is snow on the ground, students should wear closed-toed shoes, pants and a jacket.
While we practice these healthy habits at school, we also ask that you do your part in assessing your student’s health at home. If your student has a fever of more than 100.0 degrees, or is experiencing vomit/diarrhea, district policy requires them to stay home. Only when your student has been symptom free without the use of any medication for more than 24 hours may they return to campus.
In the event that your student is staying home from school, please call the front office and let us know. Also, bring to the front office a doctor’s note or parent note. As always, we are here to answer any healthy hygiene habits questions.
Thank you,
Belinda R. Dunn RN, BSN

Ride Change, Doctor's Appointments and Emergency Care for Late Pickups
The school will follow the direction you provided about how your child gets home each day. If there is a change to this, you must notify the office in one of the following ways:
Send a written note with your child with details for how he or she will get home that day.
Email maria.reyes@gcisd.net and kimberly.becerra@gcisd.net with details for how you child will be picked up prior to 2:00 p.m.
Call the office 817-251-5770 prior to 2:00 p.m.
Changes cannot be made by text messages or calls to teachers. Teachers are working with your children during the school day and we can’t ensure that information will get to the office.
If your child has a doctor's appointment that requires leaving school early:
- Please notify the office the day before the appointment so the office has time to prepare necessary checkout for you.
- Pick up your child prior to 2:30 for early release. Because of the size of our school, we are not able to process early pickups after this time. This is a shared policy across GCISD elementary campuses.
- Send a doctor's note in with your child the following day so that we are able to excuse the partial absence.
If you have an emergency and are not able to pick up your child(ren) by 3:20:
- Your child(ren) will be taken to KidzU for supervision at which time an emergency care fee is charged.
- KidzU is located at the Timberline Annex, across from the LAC.
- Unless there are unforeseen circumstances such as inclement weather, our car rider dismissal line is cleared by 3:20.
- If possible, please call the office to alert us of the emergency.
