National Merit Semifinalists
Central Bucks High School South is proud to announce that eleven students have been named National Merit Semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Congratulations to Zachary Adnane, Miquel Briones, Yiqiu Liu, William Rong, Charan Santhirasegaran, Caleb Tsai, Ethan Wang, Kian Watkins, Joshua Yeoum, Joyce Yoon, and Cathy Zhuang. According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, “about 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screening of program entrants.” The scores of Semifinalists ranked them among the top one percent of juniors in the nation last year. These eleven students will now compete to become National Merit Finalists where they will be eligible for scholarships through the National Merit Corporation or its sponsoring organizations. Finalists will be announced in the Spring 2019.

PSAT At South On Saturday, October 13th!
The PSAT is the practice test for the SAT. It is offered one time every fall for 10th and 11th graders and is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship. The PSAT has two sections- Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing.
PSAT registration begins Friday, September 14th and continues through 11:59 PM on Sunday, October 7th.
The cost for the PSAT is $23 and registration must be completed through MyPaymentsPlus. After a student registers, he or she will receive a PSAT Practice Booklet in their Titan Forum within a few days.
The PSAT is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The test begins at 8am but we ask all participating students to be here by 7:40 AM so the test can begin promptly at 8:00 AM.
Students should be prepared for the test by bringing a calculator and several #2 pencils. Extra batteries are also a good idea. Due to test security, cell phones should not be brought into the building on test day. The test should be completed by 11:30 AM but times may vary from room to room. Room assignments will be posted at South a few days before the test.
News From The Health Office
Each year, Pennsylvania requires schools to complete health screenings for students. Students in all grades complete vision screening and height/weight measurements. In eleventh grade, students also receive hearing screening (October/November). Once completed, height and weight measurement can be found on Parent Portal. Parents/Guardians will be contacted following the screenings if there is a concern.
If you prefer that your child be exempted from the health screenings, please contact Mrs. Willingham lwillingham@cbsd.org
College Visits For Juniors and Seniors
Each year over 125 college admissions representatives come to CB South to meet with our juniors and seniors. These small-group sessions are a great way to find out more information about the individual college and speak directly with the admissions representative. Each visit is 20 minutes long at the end of each block.
To find the list of colleges scheduled, students must go to their Naviance account and click on COLLEGES. Scroll down the page to find COLLEGE VISITS and a full list can be found by clicking on SHOW MORE.
To sign up for a visit, students must click REGISTER NOW by those visits they wish to attend. It is important that students then click VIEW DETAILS and PRINT OUT THE DETAILS PAGE AS A PASS to have permission to leave class. Students must sign up the DAY BEFORE the visit.
The list of visits will be updated weekly, so it is important to check back regularly
Good Sportsmanship
We hope that everyone will continue to support our athletic teams during the fall season. South prides itself on good sportsmanship on the part of players and fans alike. Please keep the following in mind as you cheer for our teams this season:
The use of profanity and vulgarity is unacceptable at athletic events. Please do not engage in inappropriate or demeaning chants during games. Students who do not comply with this expectation will be ejected from the games and will face disciplinary consequences. Let’s focus on supporting our team, not degrading the opposing school.
Entering/Rushing the athletes’ area of play is prohibited and dangerous to security, teachers, spectators, and the athletes.
Students are not permitted to bring purses, draw string bags, backpacks, food, or beverages to any athletic event in the fall season.
Students are prohibited from trespassing on the property of any school in the Central Bucks School District or on any property in any other school district. Damaging school property or engaging in any other activity that inconveniences the other school’s staff is strictly prohibited and will be considered vandalism, resulting in disciplinary and legal consequences. Please do not jeopardize your good standing by engaging in this type of unacceptable behavior.
All Central Bucks School District and Central Bucks High School South’s polices apply to students at athletic events. Please be advised that coming to an athletic event under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance is not only extremely dangerous, but also violates School Board Policy 227. If a student chooses to attend a CB South athletic event while under the influence, law enforcement will be notified and a 5-day suspension will be imposed.
CB South’s Administration respectfully requests that parents monitor their child’s whereabouts and actions before athletic events at CB South. Please be aware of your child’s plans before the event, how they will safely get to the event, and how they will safely arrive home from the event.
We hope that you continue to show your enthusiasm and school spirit as we enter the fall athletic season. The Faculty and Administration at CB South has always considered your ability to support our teams in a positive and respectful manner as one of our key points of pride. Please join your classmates in continuing this proud tradition.
