Tons of great information for Broken Arrow families.

Principal's Message (Ryan Horne, Principal)

We are quickly approaching mid-year MAP and DIBELS benchmark testing. Testing will begin the week of December 2 and wrap up on December 13. It is important to understand that the data collected on each student is analyzed by our teachers and support staff and utilized to design instruction to meet the needs of each student.

Students have been hard at work earning their Blazer Bucks for modeling responsibility, respect, safety, and kindness. The last Friday of the month, Miss Montgomery, our social worker, takes our Reward Cart around so students who choose to spend their bucks can purchase off of the menu. Several BA Staff got a pie in the face at our first quarter Trailblazer of the Quarter assembly, courtesy of our students. There will be more staff getting a sweet treat in the face at our upcoming second quarter Trailblazer of the Quarter assembly on Friday, December 20. We will also be recognizing our Trailblazer of the Quarter student from each classroom at the assembly.

PTA will also be honoring students who have earned recognition for their Reflections projects.

You are more than welcome to join us for the fun on December 20 at 8:30 am in the BA Gym.

The following are just some of the items purchased recently by students using their Blazer Bucks that emphasize fun and relationships between students and staff:

  • Lunch with Mr. Horne
  • Mr. Horne buys you your favorite restaurant meal and delivers it to you for lunch
  • Mr. Horne takes you to Sonic for a drink
  • Have a Sonic drink delivered to you at school
  • Have Mrs. James paint your fingernails
  • Help your favorite teacher or staff member
  • No shoes in the classroom
  • Sit by a friend all day
  • Popsicle party for your class

Attendance Matters!

If your child is not going to be attending school for the day, please call the attendance line or the Office to let us know. The Attendance Line is available 24/7.

Our Attendance Clerk spends upwards of 1.5 hours each morning attempting to verify our students’ absences. Your student may be ill, at a doctor’s appointment, running very late, or you may think they are at school and we have them marked as absent. This would be a very scary situation.

Please keep these phone numbers handy and/or place them in your phone under Broken Arrow so you can easily call and let us know if your student is not going to be in school.

Broken Arrow Nurse’s Office 913.993.2302

If you have not done so already, please read the District’s Attendance Policy. Below is a brief summary:

· If the student is not in their seat by 8:10 a.m., they are tardy

· If the student arrives to school after 8:45 a.m., they are marked as one-half day absent

· If the parent does not provide a doctor’s note or valid reason, as stated in the Attendance Policy, the absence will be marked unexcused

· If a student is signed out of school before 3:10 p.m., they are marked as tardy

· If the student leaves before 2:15 p.m., they are marked as one-half day absent

· If the parent does not provide a doctor’s note or valid reason, as stated in the Attendance Policy, the absence will be marked unexcused

· 10 tardies = 1 day unexcused absence

· Please read the Attendance Policy for truancy laws regarding unexcused absences.

EXIT ONLY!

Please be aware of the Exit Only driveway on the west side of Broken Arrow.

We have had several cars entering the Exit Only lanes while buses are leaving school at the end of the day.

Please help keep our kids safe!

PTA President's Message

Dear Broken Arrow Families,

The school year is flying by and it’s almost time for the holiday break! The PTA has been busy with making some changes to help out our Broken Arrow Families. We are still currently in the process of working towards the School of Excellence. We have been so grateful for all of the parents, and volunteers that have been helping out this semester. We have had so many great general meetings with so many new faces and ideas. If you haven’t made it to a meeting yet, please don’t be shy! We love and welcome any new faces.

The Broken Arrow board members would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season! And as always, if you need anything please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your support,

Recess Guidelines

It’s only the beginning of Fall, but we all know how fickle Kansas weather can be!

Per District policy, there will be no outdoor recess when:

· The temperature is 15 degrees or below

· The wind chill index is 0 degrees or below

· There is falling moisture

The only other time your child would not go outside for recess would be with a doctor’s note.

Nurse's Notes

When should I keep my child home from school?

  • If your child has a fever of 100 or above, vomiting and/or diarrhea, they should stay home for at least 24 hours or until your student is completely well. Please note they have to be fever free without fever-reducing medications. Even though your student is feeling better, they still can pass the virus/illness to other people.

  • Contact the attendance line 913-993-2388 if your child will be absent for an illness and mention what symptoms your child has for the nurse.

  • If your child becomes ill at school with a fever of 100 or above, vomiting and/or diarrhea, they will need to go home. Keep your phone number and emergency numbers up-to-date so we are able to contact you. If you will be unable to pick your student up during the school hours, please have an emergency contact available as a backup.

Thank you for your cooperation in these matters,

Jamie Knight

Winter Fun Fest

Mark your calendars, we are looking forward to a fun family Polar Express night December 17 from 6-7:30 pm. Come join us for hot chocolate, popcorn, crafts & a fun story time!

Birthday Billboard

This is a special bulletin-board in the Multi-Purpose Room that everyone can see during lunch and assemblies. Every month the Birthday Billboard gets updated with the birthday’s for that month.

For a $5 donation your child will have the opportunity to have their name up for everyone to see for an entire month!

We don’t forget the summer birthdays—if your student has a Birthday in late May, June, July and early August—their names will be displayed on their “1/2 Birthday” month.

Forms will be available in the office year round. Please contact Sarah Alberico with any questions at sarahalberico18@gmail.com

Box Tops For Education

Please help raise money by sending in your trimmed non expired box tops. You can also use the new App so you don’t have to worry about clipping the new ones! Box tops are the EASIEST way for our school to get extra money. Every clip counts and it adds up!
