Great Kindness Challenge is next week!

During the week of January 23-27, Empresa is participating in The Great Kindness Challenge. Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to practice kindness with various activities at lunch. Listed below are the daily themes/activities for your information. Please reinforce these themes at home. On Friday, we get to end this week with a scheduled dress-up day that fits right into the theme!

Monday 1/23:

Students are encouraged to practice manners. This is a good opportunity to reinforce the importance of using good manners and being polite.

Tuesday 1/24:

Students are encouraged to write a thank-you card at lunch to an adult that helps them.

Wednesday 1/25:

Students will receive a Bingo sheet to complete ways to spread kindness activities while at home and at school. Some of the items on it are: help with the chores, wave at a friend, clean your room, etc. This is a great opportunity to talk about how being kind can be shown in many different ways.

Thursday 1/25:

Students will be encouraged to make a card or picture for a friend during lunch.

Friday 1/26:

“Highlight Friendship Day.” Students are encouraged to wear neon colors and sit by someone new at lunch.

Our Lost and Found is Overflowing!

Are you missing a jacket or water bottle? Our lost and found is overflowing. Please ask students to check the lost and found for any missing items. Any unclaimed items will be donated on January 31st.

EPAF can use your help!

EPAF is beginning to plan our biggest fundraisers of the year -- the Spring Festival (April 29). We have two amazing co-chairs for the event, but we need help with these supporting roles. Find a friend and work together on a position!

  • Spring Festival Vendor Chair - Organizes and books vendors for the Spring Festival.
  • Spring Festival Donations Chair - Requests and collects donations from businesses for the online and silent auctions.
  • Spring Festival Fun & Games Chair - Organizes activities for the school community to enjoy at the Spring Festival.
  • Spring Festival Baskets Chair - Works as a liaison between teachers and room parents to organize classroom baskets. Prepares silent auction for the day of Spring Festival.

Kimochi Keys to Communication

Key #1 - Call Name, Wait For Eye Contact, Give A Communication Tap Before You Speak

Your child(ren) have been learning the benefits and importance of initiating communication in appropriate and kind ways. When students learn how to get attention from peers and adults respectfully they create a social-emotional connection that leads to successful outcomes.

Communication Key 1 teaches children that to get someone’s attention. Your child can show you the steps to Key 1, but basically: Call the name of the person you want to speak with. Wait for eye contact before beginning to speak. If necessary, give them a communication tap, before speaking

Kimochis® Family Challenge: Everyone will look first to see if someone is busy before talking and remember to start conversations by calling the person’s name, waiting for eye contact and using the communication tap, if necessary. This week be conscious to not communicate with your children from opposite sides of your home. Instead get in some more face time when you talk as a family.
