Senior Decision Day!
Too Good For Drugs Graduation!
Graduation was an enjoyable evening when our Brickies made a promise to themselves that they would be drug free and live a healthy life. The evening was kicked off by our Director of Technology, Mr. Chris King, followed by our wonderful Hobart Officers, Corporals, and Chief, who taught our students life-long lessons that will forever be in their minds. The guest speaker this year was an incredible Hobart High School senior, Dakota Vanderberg, who lived his life literally surrounded by drugs and alcohol since a child and relied on his friends, teachers, and police for assistance. He had little guidance from home and did not know of the opportunities that are out there for him, especially when he started high school. He was proud to say, that with the help of our counselors, teachers, and administration and more importantly his hard work, determination, and drug-free life he will be graduating with an Associates Degree through Hobart University for free and continuing his college education to become a teacher! He choose this career path because he wants to be the impact on others that they had on him. It was truly incredible to hear and we are so very proud of him for the successes he has had and the courage it took to tell his story in front of everyone. It left all in attendance with the realization of drug addiction, who it impacts, and that it is possible to be and stay drug free.
In addition our students all wore a wonderful shirt that had a drawing created by the overall drawing winner out of all the students. Then, as the evening drew toward the conclusion, the essay winners were announced from each school where students received certificates and Amazon gift cards! To finalize the evening Superintendent, Dr. Buffington spoke more encouraging words and congratulated our Brickies on their accomplishment. Great job to all of our 5th Grade Brickies!
