As we head into our last days of school we cannot help but reminisce about this year as a whole and how amazing our Brickies are. They may never realize this, but they are the ones that inspire our staff to take on the new challenges, embrace the changes, persevere through the tough moments, and create the best days. They are the light during some tricky times and we can never thank our students enough for their laughter, compassion, grit, and determination to constantly succeed and make others around them better. We are lucky to be surrounded by the best and love our Brickie family! Enjoy this month's Focus on Education as we move toward summer and nights full of graduation celebrations! #BrickieUp Way to #BeExcellentOnPurpose

Hall of Academic Excellence and Hall of Scholars

Congratulations to these individuals who have excelled tremendously in their academics. The Hall of Academic Excellence acknowledges our top 15 (there were two ties - so top 17 this year) Hobart Middle School students and our Hall of Scholars acknowledges our top 15 Hobart High School Students. These individuals have GPAs of 4.0 or above and their drive, passion, and mentality show in all aspects of their lives. They constantly want to learn more and know there are no limitations to what they can learn.

Achieving such an honor is no easy task and oftentimes can be stressful, however they turn those challenges into powerful tools that will help them prepare for their future endeavors. We are so proud of these individuals and know that our young Brickies will continue to shine and our graduates will continue to grow into their next chapter of life. Outstanding job, Brickies! We look forward to watching you grow and hearing about your successes. Way to #BeExcellentOnPurpose!

Senior Decision Day!

This was the first time that we held a Senior Decision celebration in our schools and it was nothing short of an amazing moment for our Seniors. The auditorium was filled with our wonderful band, all the students and staff, and Brickie Pride! Mr. Whiteman took the microphone and in true fashion did an amazing job getting the students pumped and excited while going through slides of what our seniors will be doin after graduation and a fun fact about them. It was great! The seniors, of course, were very celebratory as they realized their hard work has paid off. Many are graduating with college credits and technical certificates that will give them an advantage as they move on to the next chapter of their lives. Some are going to college, some are going into the trades, and all are excited and ready to graduate! Congratulations to our amazing #BrickieClassof2022! We are so very proud of you!

Too Good For Drugs Graduation!

Every year, thanks to our partnership with the Hobart Police Department, our 5th grade students go through the Too Good For Drugs program. This program is so much more than learning about the consequences of drugs and alcohol, how you can respond when they are asked by friends, and teaching students to have the confidence and courage to say no. It is also the relationships that they build with their classmates and amazing SROs and helpful police officers. The students have learned that there are always people out there who will help them and support them.

Graduation was an enjoyable evening when our Brickies made a promise to themselves that they would be drug free and live a healthy life. The evening was kicked off by our Director of Technology, Mr. Chris King, followed by our wonderful Hobart Officers, Corporals, and Chief, who taught our students life-long lessons that will forever be in their minds. The guest speaker this year was an incredible Hobart High School senior, Dakota Vanderberg, who lived his life literally surrounded by drugs and alcohol since a child and relied on his friends, teachers, and police for assistance. He had little guidance from home and did not know of the opportunities that are out there for him, especially when he started high school. He was proud to say, that with the help of our counselors, teachers, and administration and more importantly his hard work, determination, and drug-free life he will be graduating with an Associates Degree through Hobart University for free and continuing his college education to become a teacher! He choose this career path because he wants to be the impact on others that they had on him. It was truly incredible to hear and we are so very proud of him for the successes he has had and the courage it took to tell his story in front of everyone. It left all in attendance with the realization of drug addiction, who it impacts, and that it is possible to be and stay drug free.

In addition our students all wore a wonderful shirt that had a drawing created by the overall drawing winner out of all the students. Then, as the evening drew toward the conclusion, the essay winners were announced from each school where students received certificates and Amazon gift cards! To finalize the evening Superintendent, Dr. Buffington spoke more encouraging words and congratulated our Brickies on their accomplishment. Great job to all of our 5th Grade Brickies!

Hobart Kart Club Finished The Season Strong!

Our Hobart Kart Club, guided by teacher and sponsor Mr. Schultz, built another amazing Kart this year. These Brickies worked hard building the race car from the ground up and learned many amazing life lessons along the way. They got their hands dirty while creating the frame, building the engine, installing the necessities, and testing it around the parking lot. Once all the tweaks were made - it was racing time! They packed up the Kart, gathered tools, loaded the trailer and were on their way. It was an exciting time, but unfortunately a chain broke while racing and they had to drop out. Though slightly discouraged by the outcome, they knew the true value of the experience and had a great time during the whole process. As always we are proud and impressed with our Brickies and their engineering skills. We look forward to what they will do next year!

Middle School Staff and Student Basketball Game!

It is an annual tradition and the students love it, the student staff basketball game! The stands were packed with our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and the benches were filled with 8th grade students and several staff members that would take the court. The competition was fierce and the student fans in the stands were constantly cheering for both their teachers and classmates. The cheers became even louder as SRO, Cpl. Jimenez took the court in the final moments while wearing his uniform! The game started with an intimidating back and forth but in the end our staff brought their A-game and took the win. There were no hard feelings though as the students came down to the floor to snap some photos and save memories with their favorite teachers as the school year is nearing the end. It was loads of fun for all and we are so happy to have this tradition back in the school!
