First UMC Sealy Digest

A look at happenings at First United Methodist Church Sealy

This Sunday, Dec. 7: 2nd Sunday of Advent

The four weeks of Advent are a time to slow down in a season often characterized by busyness and activity. If we're not careful, our 'busyness' can cause us to lose sight of the real story of Christmas. This first Sunday in Advent reminds us that the story is not about our shopping success or activities, but about God stepping down into our world to know us, love us and to save us. We've prepared several Advent worship opportunities for you and your family, including bible studies and Sunday evening worship!

Just ONE WEEK until the Christmas Musical! Second graders and up, please meet at 9 am this Sunday with Mrs. Kay for chime lessons! Children seven and under, please be in Sunday School to practice our special Christmas songs. The big performance is Dec. 14, at 10 am.

Can't make the Sunday morning services? As part of our Advent series we've added a 7 pm EVENING service this Sunday. Please join us for special worshiping. And invite a friend or neighbor!

Around the Church:

TOMORROW Thursday, Dec 4, 5-10 pm
The 2nd Annual Holiday Vendor Blender:
Find the perfect Christmas present for everyone on your list AND support local artists and business owners (including the Methodist Women and lots of our church members and friends). We’ll have food, music by TJ Mills and you’ll finish your Christmas shopping! The Vendor Blender benefits the First UMC Christmas Angels.

2014 Apportionments are paid in full! Thanks for your faithful giving and to the finance committee for their faithful service this year.

There will be NO United Methodist Men in December. The group will reconvene in January.

Just as the first wrapped gift beneath the Christmas tree marks the new season, so the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day signaled that God’s hope and salvation and redemption plan had come into the world. In Jesus, God gift-wrapped himself in human flesh and was born in a stable so he could come and live among us and offer us life and salvation that we could never gain on our own.
