Schlegel Safari Newsletter
October 2021
Dear Schlegel Families,
What a wonderful start to the school year! "We are Crew" is a mantra we hope you have heard about from your child(ren). Crew is a structure and culture for staff and students to work together as a team, to pitch in, and to help others. We will continue to share information with you each month.
Hurray, the Schlegel shade structure is in the works! Students and staff will be able to access the structure soon. This will be a great spot to get out of the sun for conversations, relaxation, and whatever else comes up.
Thank you for your patience and support in following the Health Guidelines. We are grateful to families for calling in the attendance line when your child is not attending school. If we do not have a call from a student's parent/guardian, Mrs. Nairy or Mrs. Jackson, our Administrative Assistants, will call you. Please be sure to keep your child home if they have any symptoms (refer to the Health Office Section.) Our goal is to stay open full time all year. This may mean your child(ren) may need to stay home if they have ANY symptoms. Unfortunately, each day, families are contacted to pick up their child(ren) due to a symptom. The district follows the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the Monroe County Department of Public Health. (District Opening Information Link.)
A few notes:
- Please plan to routinely access the parent portal to learn about your child's schedule, placement, and attendance. At times information will be only posted on the Parent Portal. You can download the app on your phone to make it easier.
- Please visit the District Website for information about this school year.
- Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions or need to share information.
With gratitude,
Dr. Francine Leggett and Kate Hesla
Principal and Assistant Principal

Friendly Reminder from the Health Office
Hello Parents/Guardians:
I hope that the school year is going well for your child(ren). The health office has a few friendly reminders for families.
We are not requiring that parents complete daily health screenings, but please make sure that your child does not have a fever or any other symptoms that could be related to COVID before sending them to school. If your child is sick, please do not send them to school and call the health office at 216-6023 for further guidance. Please see below for more information on students returning to school after illness.
If your child(ren) will be absent for any reason, please make sure to call the attendance line at 265-2513. If you email the teacher to let them know, please be sure to also call the attendance line.
If your child(ren) are in UPK, K, 1, 3, 5, or is new to the Webster School district, please make sure that the health office has an updated Physical Exam on file. The Physical exams will need to be dated 9/1/2020 or after. Updated exams need to be submitted within the first 30 days of school.
If your child has an injury and will not be able to participate in gym or recess, please be sure to notify the health office. We will need a note from your child’s doctor stating their activity restriction for gym/recess and also a doctor’s note stating that they are cleared to participate fully in gym/recess.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call the health office at 216-6023 or email one of us; rachael_rock@webstercsd.org kristen_estelle@webstercsd.org.
Thank you for helping us to keep Schlegel healthy this school year!
Kind regards,
Kristen Estelle RN, BS
