BOX TOPS CONTEST

As always, we welcome your Box Tops at Penny Road! Our current contest period ends this Monday, February 25th. Please send in collection sheets with your students! You may download a blank sheet HERE. Everyone in the winning class will earn a raffle ticket for our Spring Carnival raffle baskets!!

Expanded School Zone!

A friendly reminder from Town of Cary Transportation & Facilities:

Recently, the Town of Cary and NCDOT expanded the Penny Road School Zone to include Ederlee Drive. adjacent to Penny Road Elementary. The expanded School Zone is the first phase of a future sidewalk and mid-block crossing that will be constructed on Ederlee Drive.

The Cary Police Department has increased patrols of this new zone and has notified us that many motorists are not complying with the slower speed limits. They are currently monitoring the situation and have begun to give warnings. After an initial period, the CPD will issue citations. Our priority is to create a safe walking environment for kids walking to school.

For reference, School Zone tickets are hard to fight. They are difficult to get reduced and, in most cases, come with heavy fines. Questions? Feel free to contact Chris Little with the Town of Cary at: chris.little@townofcary.org

General PTA Meeting

Our next General PTA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 27th at 5:30 pm in the Creative Commons (media center). Please join us to hear the latest updates from our PTA, as well as, Principal Hoke! Once again, we have amendments to make to our budget and we need at least 20 PTA members to make this happen! Please join us if you are able to! Students are welcome to attend with their parents, as the meeting will be just before our Family STEM night brought to us by NC State’s Engineer Ambassadors!

Family STEM Night - Wednesday, February 27th

Please plan to attend our Family STEM night brought to us by NC State’s Engineering Ambassadors. They will have ten stations set up and families are free to move about and check them all out! This event is open to students in every grade level and their families and will last from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm.

Would you consider volunteering to assist at a station? Visit the Konstella sign up HERE to help out!

Staff Appreciation Week: February 25th - March 1st

Staff Appreciation Week is coming!

Please help us show our fabulous Penny Road Staff how much we appreciate ALL that they do for our Pandas! Some of the days will be sponsored by the PTA, and families are being asked to participate on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. A flyer will be coming home in your student’s folders, but here is a quick look at what is planned:

Monday PTA sponsored “Monday Munchie Cart” - fresh coffee, snacks and water will be delivered to staff members in their classrooms and offices.

Tuesday “Grati-Tuesday” - Students are asked to write notes to our teachers and staff members. Don’t forget any additional staff who may help your students during their day, as well as, our fabulous, office staff, administrators, and Ms. Denise! Have a question about someone’s name? Click HERE to visit our school’s website! In addition to thanking their classroom teachers, the following grades are asked to “thank” our specials teachers!

  • Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Mrs. Koch (music) and Mrs. Platts (media)
  • 2nd and 3rd Grades: Ms. Martin (PE) and Ms. Hamilton (Enrichment)
  • 4th and 5th Grades: Mrs. Gardner (Art) and Ms. Sarah (Guidance)

Wednesday "Wish List Wednesday” - Families are asked to purchase supplies that may be running low for classrooms and the office. Please check with your room parents for your teacher’s specific needs or wishes. For our specials teachers, please use the grade levels assigned above. Some suggestions are: Pencils, crayons, markers, Clorox wipes, dry erase markers, Post-it notes, and hand sanitizer. We are also using this time to “Stock the Lounge”. Donations of coffee cups, coffee K-cups (regular and decaf), creamers, hard candies, small chocolates, hand soap, dish soap and paper towels are always desired for the teachers’ lounge!

Thursday Blooms for Everyone - The PTA will be delivering a small floral gift to every staff member.

Friday Brunch as a Bunch - Families will be asked to provide items for a staff wide brunch. Please check out the Konstella sign up HERE for specific needs!
