Virtual Support Day - Wednesday, June 10
Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 10, 2020, is a Virtual Support Day. This will be a day of self-directed learning for students. They will be responsible for checking in for daily attendance and completing the lessons assigned for that week. Teachers and staff members should check in with students who have missing assignments, need additional instructional support, or are in danger of failing a class.
BWRSD Free Book Distribution - PreK through 12th Grade
To support and encourage reading over the summer, we will be distributing free books to families. We are fortunate to have received a number of book donations from Rogers Free Library, Books are Wings, and Reach Out and Read and cleaned our book closets to identify books students would enjoy reading at home. We are happy to be able to offer free books for students in Pre-K through 12th grade. Books are bagged/boxed by grade level and there are assorted titles inside.
Books will be distributed, via curbside pick up on the dates below. School staff will be onsite to assist, wearing masks and gloves. Parents are asked to wear masks for the pick up, as well.
Wednesday June 10 and Thursday June 11
8:00-11:00 am at Hugh Cole
Please drive around to the rear of the building.
Tuesday June 16 and Wednesday June 17
8:00-11:00 am at Colt Andrews
Adjacent to lunch distribution
All are welcome to pick up books at either location. If you are interested in books but unable to make the listed dates, please email julie.fezettebaker@bwrsd.org.
Update on Fall Re-opening
RIDE has provided initial guidance to school districts about reopening of schools in the Fall. Our district’s primary focus will be opening schools while maintaining the health and safety of students and staff. The process of reopening schools will require extensive coordination among school-district-vendor-families in order to develop a hybrid schedule that supports all students. It is likely that the model of school in the fall will contain both traditional in school options for some students and distance learning for others. Our initial planning will look for ways to return elementary students to school as safely as possible.
Currently, all district administrators and leaders from BWEA and C94 are working on initial reopening plans. Guidance from RIDE, RIDOH, CDC are changing weekly. As the guidance changes, we will continue to refine our reopening plans. We will share information with you so that you can stay abreast of our plans.
Athletics Update
A message from our Athletic Director, Christy Belisle
During this time of school closure, we have been busy researching the latest guidelines and recommended protocols from a variety of agencies, including the Center for Disease Control, R.I. Department of Health, the NFHS Sports Medicine Committee, the RI Sports Medicine Committee, the Rhode Island Interscholastic League and the Governor's office for the return of Athletics in BWRSD. We are also reviewing the various models under consideration across neighboring states.
Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our middle and high school student athletes. While we know you are all anxious to return to play, each sport will likely return to play on a different timeline, with a different set of rules, safety protocols and reduced capacity for fans. Please be patient with us while we do this important work.
As we wait for a clearer timeline for the return of athletics, let’s remain hopeful and continue to stay active. We will update you as soon as additional information is available.
Meal Distribution Update
Please be advised that meals will be distributed at Colt Andrews School, Kickemuit Middle School, and Hope & Main as usual this week. The last day of meal distribution at these locations will be June 18, 2020 which is the last day of school as BWRSD is not eligible for a summer meal program per the federal government. During the summer months, the East Bay Food Pantry has grab n go food locations throughout the week. See this flyer for more information. All food is available free of charge. Call 401-396-9490 for details!
