National Junior Honor Society Induction

This week we inducted 124 students in the Tamanend Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. Students were invited to apply to the NJHS if they had a 3.5 or higher GPA. The 124 accepted shared evidence of school involvement, community service, school service, and leadership. Congratulations to all students! Thank you NJHS Officers, leaders, Sra. Mary Pat Mars and Sra. Emily Murray (Advisors), for honoring our deserving students and their proud families with a beautiful, academic, and traditional induction ceremony.

Boomerang Honoree for April

Congratulations to 7th grader, Cheyenne T.! Always with a book in her hands, Cheyenne reads before, during, and after school. She reads because she loves it. Cheyenne has overcome reading challenges and turned them into a positive asset. One of her teachers has said that she trained her brain by reading so much. In fact, Cheyenne’s nickname is Books! She even loves to read books to her younger siblings and encourages her peers through the reading process from the start to the finish of each book. Cheyenne knows that reading is an important skill that will assist her in reaching her dream of becoming an actress. Cheyenne visits our school library at least twice a week and as a result, has checked out 155 books from our school library this year so far! She was nominated as the captain of her Reading Olympics team, and she read all 46 books for that competition! Cheyenne, congratulations on being named Tamanend’s Boomerang Honoree for CB Cares April’s Asset: Reading for Pleasure!

Freshman Trip to Washington, DC.

Our 9th Grade students, teachers, support staff, and parents spent the entire day and into the evening in beautiful Washington, DC yesterday. Many of the museums and monuments align with what they have learned in social studies, English, and science classes, especially in their Freshman year. To follow up, the Freshman Team Teachers arranged for a special assembly with Holocaust survivor, David Tuck, and his representative from the Holocaust Awareness Museum in Philadelphia who discussed what it was like to live through 5 years in the Nazi concentration camp system, including time spent at Auschwitz. Following, students watched the film, Boy in the Striped Pajamas.

We thank your Freshman Team teachers for arranging the DC trip, Holocaust Survivor Assembly, and movie. We thank all of the parents who chaperoned the DC trip. Without them, we could not provide this incredible opportunity to our 9th grade class to experience together.

Pictured here is Mr. Tuck with several of our students after the assembly.
