Field Trip to the Virginia Black History Museum

Our students had so much fun at the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia

yesterday!! They learned about the impact of influential African-Americans in our state, and how we can make a difference in our communities today. A big THANK YOU to our dear friend, Mrs. Rollins, for making this trip possible for our students, and to Mr. Thomas for providing our brand new t-shirts!!

Student Council Spirit Week Next Week

Our Student Council has planned an exciting week next week! All students are invited to show school spirit and take part! Please note: the Spirit Days are Monday-Thursday. Students will need to wear their regular uniform on Friday for the Awards Assembly.

We are excited to celebrate the accomplishments of our 8th grade scholars next Thursday, May 25th at the Ephesus SDA Church. Family and friends are invited to join us for this celebration of our students! This will be an in-person event at the Ephesus SDA Church.


7th and 8th grade parents, please continue to check your emails for the most up to date information from us. Our 7th graders have a very important role in this ceremony, so we are asking that they all attend. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Thomas.

8th Grade Graduation-Thursday, May 25th

Awards Assembly-Friday, May 26

Next Friday, we will celebrate our students and their academic accomplishments during a special Awards Assembly. Parents, if you are able to, you are welcome to join us for this event. We will begin at 11:00 AM, and end with a few refreshments immediately after the program. All students need to wear their school uniform on Friday for this event.

Title 1 Summer Learning

In hopes to reinforce their learning over the summer, Mrs. Ohmer will be sending resources home with the students between now and the end of the year.


Last week, all Math Title 1 students will be bringing home a BIG Math Bag of assorted games and activities. The bag also includes login information for an online subscription to ABCYA, which lasts for a limited time, so you may want to take advantage of that now!


Grade 1 Title 1 students will also be receiving an engaging workbook called “Summer Fit”. “Summer Fit” workbooks are a great way for students to keep growing their brains over the summer! They have colorful illustrations, family activities and daily plans that are easy and flexible.


Thank you to those who have returned the Title 1 Parent Survey!! If you have not returned the survey (on bright blue paper) please take a minute to complete the survey and return it to school as soon as possible.

We are anticipating new students in all of our classes, so enrolling early helps us to better plan for next school year, and ensure that our returning students will have a spot in their desired classroom. In case you haven't heard....EJA will be offering Kindergarten for the 2023-2023 school year!! We are restructuring our lower grades classroom as a Kindergarten through 2nd grade program with a strong focus on early foundational literacy development, social-emotional learning, and innovative project-based learning. We are excited that our younger ones will have the opportunity to grow and thrive in this new learning environment designed just for them! Spots are already filling up fast in our K-2 classroom! If you know a family that is interested, encourage them to apply now or call the school for more information. Returning families, please enroll now to secure your spot for the upcoming school year.

K-12 Learning Acceleration Grants

Have you heard?? To address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students' educational progress and well-being, the Virginia Department of Education announced in March 2023 the availability of $30 million in Learning Acceleration Grants to be used for qualifying education services.


VDOE is currently accepting applications from the following:


  • Virginia parents of school-age children seeking grants to provide tutoring.


  • Tutors and providers of assistive technologies and specialized educational therapy services and support.

Acewall Scholars Summer STEM Camp-Register Now!

We are happy to partner with Acewall Scholars once again this summer to host the Mad Scientist STEM Camp at EJA. Join us for another fun summer of STEM! Registration is now open for students in 3rd-9th grade. The registration fee is waived until May 15th. Financial Aid is available for the summer camp. Please apply for this as soon as possible.


Parents, if you need help registering for summer camp, please contact Ms. Keisha at kwallace@acewallscholars.org. She will also be available at the school next Friday to assist with registration and answer any questions you may have.
