Common Core Standards

Grade: Kindergarten

Standard: Print Concepts: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.K.1. Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RFK.1.D Recognize and name all upper and lowercas letters of the alphabet.


I will connect this book to their lives by having them identify the upper and lower case letters and have them verbally written or draw something in their lives that begin with the letter.

I will use the book as a model by pointing out lower and upper case letters. For example Jj is for Jerusalem in Israel. After identify the letter and object that begins with the letter I will tell them something about the object which will help them learn to identify letters but also learn about some other culture.

Student will be allow to practice the skill verbal, written or with a drawing.

To increase the students mastery of identify letters I will have them read the text from left to right and circle or under the letter in written words from the text. For example, if the letter Ee is the topic, the students will identify every Ee in the written text on a certain page.
