Language Arts

The spelling lesson this week teaches the suffixes ing and reviews adding s and es.

We will continue reading non-fiction texts and asking questions before, during and after reading. We will also discuss the STP strategy, which means to "Stop, Think, and Put it in your own words." We will practice this in class together and during guided reading to help improve reading comprehension.

We have completed our research on the First Thanksgiving. We have started writing opinion pieces on whether or not we would have liked to attend the first Thanksgiving.

We will complete Chapter Three in My Math this week. I will review in class on Tuesday, and your child will bring home a review sheet for homework Tuesday night. The Chapter Three test will be given on Wednesday. We will begin Chapter Four which is subtraction of two digit numbers both with and without regrouping.

There will be an addition fact test this Thursday. Please continue to help your child study for these tests.

Social Studies

This week in economics, we will talk about the difference in a producer and a consumer. Our Winter Workshop begins this Thursday and all second graders will become elves who are producing goods in Santa's workshop! Thank you to all of you who have volunteered your time and/or sent in supplies to help with this fun unit on economics.
