We Put our Scholars First and Work to Bring a Love of Learning to our Bobcats!
On August 17th, we will all proudly say, "Good Morning, and welcome to our first, fun-filled day of virtual education at Burchett Elementary School where we make great education happen for every scholar every day!"
These words will resonate in the hallways at Burchett, and for the next four weeks, will resonate in the hearts and homes of our Bobcat scholars.
As a reminder, all Spring ISD schools will begin the year with four weeks of virtual learning. Please note that we will not post links to our synchronous or asynchronous classes on the website or in our newsletter. Teachers are using Google Meets and Schoology Conference as the platform to communicate this information.
If you have questions or need assistance, please contact your scholar's teacher. In addition, you may log into the Home Access Center (HAC) for schedules and teachers' names.
It is our hope that everyone has, "a super-fantastic day" and a great first day of school!
Helpful Tools and Information
Remote Learning Schedule is NOT reflected in HAC
Parents, your students’ schedules are now available in the Home Access Center. With remote learning starting on Monday, please be aware that the HAC schedules are for “on campus learning” and will not fully align with the remote learning day. Please look for communication from your child’s teacher with your child’s remote learning schedule.
If you do not receive communication from your child’s teacher when your student should log on for their first class, please check out the remote learning schedule above.
When public health conditions allow for in-person learning, we will be following your child’s schedule on HAC and our bell schedule for on-campus instruction for those families who have chosen that option. Until then, please have your students “school and camera ready” at the time listed in our remote learning schedule. We will be using this start time at least for the next four weeks or through Sept. 11.
If you have any questions about your student’s schedule, please contact 281-891-8630.

Life is sweet for Benedict. Every morning he wakes up to find jars of fresh honey on his back porch. He makes honey toast for breakfast, bakes honey cake in the afternoon, and drinks honey tea before bed. But one day, the jars on Benedict’s porch are empty. The bees in his backyard have gone on strike! They are tired of doing all the work around the hive. What can Benedict do to make the bees happy and bring sweetness back to his days?

Low-Cost Internet Options for Eligible Families
With all students learning remotely from the start of school on Aug. 17 until at least Sept. 11, some of our families are wondering whether they have the internet bandwidth to support online coursework during Empowered Learning At-Home.
Internet connectivity is an important consideration for students learning at home, and the district is working to provide multiple supports to help our families, including arranging mobile hotspots and boosting campus internet so that the district’s Wi-Fi network is accessible from school parking lots. However, there are also special offers on low-cost internet that qualifying families may want to consider.
Specifically, both Comcast Internet Essentials and Access from AT&T offer home internet service for around $10 a month. These specially priced plans require an application, and are designed to assist families who might also qualify for public assistance programs such as the National School Lunch Program, Housing Assistance, Medicaid, SNAP and SSI.
Pandemic Food Benefits Deadline Extended to August 21 For Families Affected By COVID-19 School Closures
The online application for the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) has been extended to ensure eligible families have time to apply.
A P-EBT call center can be reached at 833-613-6220 to assist families in completing their application. For more information, please visit hhs.texas.gov/PEBT.
Harris County Announces Free COVID-19 Testing with Shorter Wait Times and Faster Results
Harris County Public Health announced that Harris County’s two stationary COVID-19 test sites in Pasadena and Cy Fair are getting a big boost from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services (DSHS). The state and federal government are providing thousands of additional test kits and lab capacity, for quicker test results, in 3 to 5 business days.
There is a new and separate website to register for Surge Testing: www.doineedacovid19test.com or call 832-927-7575. To get tested at the surge sites, people must be 13 or older, register and select an appointment time and keep their assigned voucher ID, which is required for testing. They also need to keep the username and password they registered with because they will need that to get their test results, in 3-5 days. Surge Sites are open Monday-Saturday and now have evening hours one day a week at each site: Tuesdays in Cy Fair at Pridgeon Stadium from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursdays in Pasadena at San Jacinto College Central Campus, also from 4 to 8 p.m.

Student Code of Conduct Updated to Reflect Changes Related to Pandemic
The district’s 2020-21 Student Code of Conduct has been updated to reflect revisions and additions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Specifically, the handbook now includes guidance around how students are expected to behave to promote safety when health conditions permit in-person learning on the campuses, including maintaining social distancing procedures, handwashing, wearing masks and keeping mouth and nose covered while sneezing and/or coughing.
Students could face disciplinary action for purposefully trying to cough or sneeze on another person, refusing to adhere to social distancing standards, and removing personal protective equipment like a mask with the goal of trying to harm or threaten another person with bodily fluids.
Students who show up to school without a mask or refuse to wear one during the school day may also face a dress code violation. The expectation is that all students come to school wearing a face covering, just as they would adhere to dress code. The goal is to keep everyone in our school safe, including students and staff.
To view the entire Code of Conduct, please click here. Parents without ability to download the Code of Conduct may request one in print by emailing Thomas Graham, the director of Student Affairs at tgraham@springisd.org.
