Teacher Appreciation Week-Help Needed!

Hello Werner Families,

Teacher Appreciation Week is fast approaching and we need everyone’s help to ensure we can spoil our amazing Teachers and Staff this year. Our theme this year is Taco ‘Bout Our Amazing Teachers! More details on how we will be celebrating our teachers each day May 3rd - May 7th will be coming out soon, but there are a few ways you can help now!

1. Sign up to be a class rep or teacher rep for Teacher Appreciation. We are looking for two classroom reps or teacher reps for each teacher in the building. For teachers with traditional classrooms you will coordinate the teacher appreciation gift for your the class. For our other amazing teachers (like our specials teachers), you and your fellow teacher rep will be responsible for helping to make that teacher feel celebrated during the week. Juliana will coordinate a zoom meeting on 4/27 to go over the details at 9am and at 5:30 pm. If you can’t make the meeting no worries we will make sure you get the necessary information. Sign up here to be a teacher rep: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0C49AFAF2DA7F58-teacher1

2. Sign up to bring items to help stock our snack bar or bring a gift card for our gift card fiesta. Although we cannot do our traditional potluck meals for this teacher appreciation we still plan on celebrating the teachers each day of the week. One of the days we will be stocking a snack bar for our teachers to grab a little pick me up throughout the day and they will also be able to get a gift card too. These items can be dropped off at the school (be sure they are labeled for teacher appreciation). Sign up to contribute here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0C49AFAF2DA7F58-teacher2

3. Lastly if you are reading this be sure to share with your Werner Friends! It’s so easy to miss an email so please share with your Werner Friends you know that would love to contribute. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact Juliana at schumpjk@gmail.com or (224)717-0749.

Thank you,

Teacher Appreciation Committee

Volunteers at Werner

As you may know, PSD has decided to allow a limited number of volunteers to work at schools during the second semester. Sites can decide whether to utilize this support, and our team is excited to take advantage of this opportunity to work with you.

The district has established the following COVID-19 protocols for volunteers. These are posted on the PSD website on the Volunteers web page.

· All elementary school volunteers must wear a KN95 mask and eye protection (e.g. face shield) as part of PSD’s contact tracing strategy at the primary level. We will provide these to you on your first day at school.

· Volunteers must always wear required PPE, maximize social distancing from others and wash their hands frequently.

· Volunteer duties are designed to limit the potential for close contact (within 6 feet for 15 cumulative minutes with a COVID-19 positive individual) as much as possible. These include but aren’t limited to traffic monitoring and recess duties outside, grading, shelving library books or making copies while distanced from others (preferably alone), and more.

Please fill out this short Volunteer Interest form if you are interested in helping us. We appreciate your help!

Resources for those facing housing and food hardship

The COVID-19 pandemic has created financial hardships for many in our community, leading to housing instability and food insecurity. There are financial resources available to help families and landlords and protections in place to help people stay housed. The PSD Department of Language, Culture, & Equity has worked with community partners to put together resources to support families.

Please see the LCE Family Resources Information (English and Spanish) for information on support with housing, food, and utilities.
