Stopher families:


Last week, students and staff shared reasons to be joyful here at Stopher. As you can see, there are many of them.


I hope to see (virtually) many of you next Thursday, March 10th at 7pm at the Stopher PTA General Body meeting via Zoom. I've enjoyed getting to know members of our PTA in the past weeks and am incredibly thankful for their support of Stopher!

Car Rider Line and Morning Arrival

The morning drop off line is going great! Once the line begins moving, the line takes no longer than 10 minutes to get through. Two reminders:

  • Do not park in the handicapped parking spots to drop off your student. This is disrupting and slowing down the line.
  • Students must be signed in if they arrive after 9:05 a.m.

Shark Week is Coming!!

Shark Week is fast approaching and it's time to begin planning. We need the following:


  • Volunteers to organize and work a Color Run for one day of that week.
  • Volunteers to help decorate the building and turn it into a shark infested water world! This is a great opportunity for dads with wood working skills to volunteer!
  • Volunteers to create shark themed treats and crafts for their individual student's classroom.
  • Volunteers to help for about one hour each morning of that week.

Shark Week Shirts: We are looking for a company to sponsor Shark Week Shirts for all of our students. Total cost will be around $4,000. The shirts will be white with one color print and the sponsor logo will be on the back. Please contact connie.puckett@jefferson.kyschools.us if your company is interested.

Stopher Basketball Champions

The 3rd Grade Basketball Team won their first Championship in the 2022 MidAmerica Elementary School League. They went undefeated in the regular season (6 - 0) and marched into the Postseason Tournament as the #1 seed. In the Final Four, they defeated North Oldham 26 - 6 and in the Championship Game, they defeated Hite Elementary 42 - 18. The team hopes to repeat that success next year in 4th Grade!

Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Click here to view projects throughout the building.

Narrative Writing Stars

Congratulations to the Narrative Writing Stars winners! All students at Stopher participated in an on-demand writing situation, and we are proud of these students for their exemplary writing.

Matilda Posters

Students are currently reading Matilda, by Roald Dahl. They were asked to submit a poster of their favorite character. Click here to view a gallery of some of their art work.

Be a part of something big! This year’s Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical Jr. playbill , a conveniently-sized keepsake, has a full color cover featuring student artwork. Savvy businesses can advertise to the many families and friends in our audience, while proud families can create a fun, personal ad for their own little actors! Either way, buying an ad is a wonderful way to support the Arts at Stopher: all proceeds go to fund the production of our musicals and Arts Program. Ad Details

If your 6 to 12 year old is interested in participating on a competitive cheer or dance team, this is the perfect opportunity to see what all the fuss is about! Come watch as many of our current and former Sharks perform with their school/recreational teams. Not interested in joining but would love to come watch? Absolutely! Come and cheer on your friends and classmates!

PTA General Body Meeting

The Stopher Executive Board would like to invite you to attend the next General Body Meeting of the PTA. It was tentatively set but has been rescheduled for the evening of Thursday, 3/10 at 7:00 pm with guest speaker, Principal Shearon. The meeting will be virtual. Last minute menus changes are occurring frequently and are out of our control due to the nationwide food shortage. Menus on Nutrislice may not reflect these changes.

COVID Testing

REMINDER: If you have signed your student up for weekly testing and no longer want it done, you must go back to the permission form you signed and remove the permission. Our office staff can not access these forms to make the change.

Covid-19 Testing

Routine COVID-19 testing for those who are not symptomatic is available to students during school. This voluntary screening will be done weekly and can quickly identify individuals who may be COVID-19 positive. To participate in this testing, students must have a consent form on file. Parents or guardians can access the online form by clicking here. Once there, click on the Complete Forms link to proceed.


*Testing is done at Stopher on Wednesdays. Registration for the test must be completed prior to 2:00 the day before.


*You do not need to register every week. Once your student is on the list, he/she stays on the list until you remove him/her.

Test to Stay

If a JCPS student or employee has been in close contact of someone with COVID-19, they now have an option not to quarantine. To qualify, they have to take a COVID-19 test every night for seven days. If they have a negative result, they can come back to school or work the next day.


Free testing is offered at middle and high schools and other select locations in the afternoons/evenings every Sunday-Thursday. There are now more than 50 locations available across the district. Click here for a list of sites and hours.


Individuals living in the same household as the positive case do NOT qualify for Test to Stay.

IMPORTANT!!!! .................... Test to Play

If a JCPS student (elementary, middle, and high school) is doing any extracurricular activities or sports, they are now required to take a weekly COVID-19 test. Stopher students can take a test during the school day on Wednesdays. To participate in this testing, students must have a consent form on file. Students not tested will NOT be permitted to participate.

Stopher Soccer Team Tryouts

This is not to be confused with the after school soccer program, Kicks Soccer Academy! This is a competitive team for students in grades 3 thru 5.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (Before School Program)

Stopher Fellowship of Christian Athletes meets every Friday morning in library. All 3rd - 5th graders are welcome. Drop off starts at 8:35 and the huddle is from 8:40 - 9:00.
