Federal Cards Due

Parents, if you have not yet completed federal cards, please do so and don't forget to sign. Return to your child's teacher as soon as possible as our deadline is approaching.

After carefully reading the instructions located on the back of the card, please fill out the front IN PENCIL.

Since 1950, Congress has provided financial assistance to school districts through the Impact Aid Program. School districts with concentrations of students whose parents are affiliated with the military, either as Active Duty service members or as federal employees that report to work on a federal property, can benefit under this law.

Every year, Onslow County Schools participates in the Federal Impact Aid Program to supplement the county’s loss of income tax revenue from the 32% of land owned by the Federal Government, which is exempt from local property tax.

Please note: this has no effect on property tax, sales tax, or income tax for individuals. Receiving a card for every student, regardless of their military affiliation, is crucial to the success of the program. Onslow County Schools heavily depends on this program to assist in providing the best education possible for our students. Should you have any questions, please contact your student’s homeroom teacher.

Thank you!

Leader in Me...From the Desk of Mrs. Hartley in Community Leadership

We will be focusing on Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then To Be Understood in Community Leadership. Habit 5 is the habit of listening to other people’s ideas and feelings. It’s trying to see things from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting. It’s about being confident in voicing your ideas. It’s about looking people in the eyes when speaking. Habit 5 is a timeless principle we all strive to teach our kids; it teaches them to be confident when speaking to others while also teaching them the importance of listening to others when they are speaking.

Habit 5 is about communication. The best way to teach someone how to communicate is by practicing it with them.

Here is a quick video on Habit 5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn07_2FxPpw
