SPS Participates in Special Olympics
Sudbury Public Schools will be participating in the United Sports Games, a one-day Track and Field themed event hosted by Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA). The Unified Sports Games bring together athletes with and without disabilities to train and compete on the same team in a structured partnership. The goal is to promote inclusion through team spirit and competition. The games are scheduled for Friday, May 3, 2019 at Bowditch Field in Framingham.
All students who signs up to participate in this year's game may choose a friend to accompany them to and compete in the event. If you are interested in having your child participate, please contact your child's special education teacher.
Start Time Committee
The LS and SPS school committees are looking at later start times for LS and Curtis. There is abundant research demonstrating the benefits of a later school start time for adolescents, including more sleep, improved academic performance, fewer sports injuries and car accidents, and especially relevant for tonight, decreased rates of anxiety and depression.
Both school committees have created start time subcommittees to make recommendations on implementing later start times. Our subcommittees are working closely together since our districts share buses. Currently we are identifying possible start time scenarios that will address the needs of our adolescents, while being sensitive to both the needs of elementary students and the cost of buses. We plan to work with our bus vendor and our route mapping software provider to help us determine optimal times and bus routes given local traffic and other local factors.
Both districts are targeting the fall of 2020 for potential implementation in order to give families and staff plenty of time to make any necessary adjustments. In addition to working on start time scenarios, both subcommittees are assessing the impacts of potential changes and working to minimize any challenges. Our work is ongoing, and we welcome input from parents, students, staff, and community members.
Lost & Found
Noyes Families:
Coming to school for a meeting or an event in the next few weeks? Please be sure to check our lost and found racks and bins in the front lobby. They are overflowing with many different items. So many that we have run out of hangers! You can also ask your child to check if you are not planning to be in the building any time soon. Any unclaimed items will be donated following April break. Thank you for your help!
