  • Looking carefully when backing.
  • Don’t text while driving.

Ohio State Lima gets on the Mobile Produce Market bus to good health

The Mobile Produce Market will begin making regular stops at the Ohio State University at Lima starting Fri., Oct. 9, 2015. Students, faculty, staff and interested community members will be able to purchase fresh, affordable produce right on campus. The bus will be parked in front of Galvin Hall from 9:45-10:45 a.m. on the second and fourth Fridays of the month and from 2-3 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays.

“Ohio State Lima is committed to creating a campus environment that supports the health and well-being of all of our students, faculty and staff,” said Charlene D. Gilbert, Ohio State Lima’s dean and director. “By providing easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables we are supporting the health of our community and hopefully creating a culture where a piece of fruit is as easy to ‘grab and go’ as a Snickers bar.”

Everyone in the area is welcome to buy from the Mobile Produce Market. There are no income requirements. The types of produce changes seasonally, but will always be fresh and affordable.

The Mobile Produce Market is the latest addition to a growing culture of healthy living on campus. The campus cafeteria is Activate Allen County certified. Campus groups for students and employees such as Healthy Buckeyes and the Wellness Innovators have led initiatives that have resulted in healthy choices in the vending machines and at meetings. The Student Wellness Center and the Office of Student Activities also promote health with programming that zeroes in on positive food, emotional and physical choices.

The Market is a partnership between the West Ohio Food Bank, Activate Allen County, the Lima Family YMCA and local businesses that help fund the operation.
