NYSUT NBCT Updates
Spring 2024
How Does NYSUT Recognize NBCTs? Let Me Count the Ways!
1. A Spread in NYSUT's Official Publication
Be sure to open up the March/April issue of NYSUT United to page 21 to see the list of names that comprise the Class of 2023 NBCTs. You can expect the publication to arrive at your home by March 8th. If you don't get a copy, you will be able to access it online the week of March 11.
2. NYSUT Media Event to Celebrate NBCTs
Every year, NYSUT organizes a regional media advisory to recognize and celebrate teachers who achieved National Board Certification. This year, the event will take place on March 14 from 5:00-6:30 pm at the NYSUT Suffolk Regional Office in Hauppauge. 2023 MOCs and 2023 newly achieved NBCTs who work in Long Island public schools were sent an invitation for this event in their honor.
Speakers for the event include Jaime Ciffone, NYSUT Executive Vice President, and Jennifer Wolfe, NBCT and former NYS Teacher of the Year. Representatives from NYSUT ELT, NBPTS, NBCNY, and the Manhasset Teacher Center will also speak. NBCT attendees will partake in a pinning ceremony and have the opportunity to network and take selfies in front of the NBCT banner.
3. You Are Invited to the Party!
We will hear remarks from NYSUT Executive Vice President Jaime Ciffone, Commissioner Betty Rosa, Chancellor Lester Young, Regent Roger Tilles, and National Board for Professional Teaching Standards President and CEO, Peggy Brookins. Laura Havill, NBCT, and Southern Tier Regional Chair for NBCNY, President of TST BOCES Teachers' Association, will offer closing remarks.
This event will be live streamed at https://www.nysut.org/news/2024/january/nbct
and a recording will be viewable within a week. Please join us in congratulating all the newly achieved National Board Certified Teachers and virtually celebrating these educators' commitment to their profession.
