Dear Gentry Families,

Thank you to those parents and faculty who attended our first PTSA meeting last week. It was great to see everyone and hear the exchange of thoughts and ideas. If you have not yet had a chance to sign up to become a member, it is never too late to join! In case you’re not familiar, PTSA stands for Parent Teacher Student Association. The PTSA meetings are a place where educators and families work together with the common goal of promoting student's positive social, emotional and academic competencies. As the old saying goes, "many hands make light work".

If you are interested in becoming a member, simply click here and complete our quick form. Mark your calendars for our next monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 20th at 6:00 pm in the Media Center! Thank you SO much for your continued commitment to our school!

Fun Ways to... Be Involved!

Information on upcoming after school clubs and activities was presented to students this week during advisory classes. We offer a little bit of everything so finding a match for your child should be easy! Please click here to see our complete 2021-22 Clubs and Activities list of all of the fun ways that your child can get involved. Each slide lists the teacher who is sponsoring the club so feel free to reach out to that teacher specifically if you have additional questions.

Please note that due to the current bus driver shortage, STA will not be able to provide an after school activity bus to transport students home after clubs/activities. If your student chooses to participate in an after school club or activity, they will be responsible for securing their own transportation home. Check with the specific club sponsor on the times and dates of each club offering.

Media Center Minute

This year Gentry's theme is "Back to Basics" and we are putting a major focus on reading. The Library has spent a considerable amount of time reviewing our collection and acquiring new materials that our students will enjoy and learn from. This month our featured collection is on Hispanic Heritage books! We have a wide variety of both fiction and non-fiction materials for students to check out. Please encourage your student to check out all that the Gentry Library has to offer.

Restroom Breaks- Reminder

In an attempt to reduce distractions during valuable classroom teaching time, we modified our student restroom break policy a bit. On Monday, September 20th students were instructed that we will expect for them to take advantage of all restroom breaks during non-teaching times (before school, during passing periods, at lunch and after school). There are 8 passing periods throughout the day and with the additional lunch break this gives students an opportunity to use the restroom 9 times throughout the day without them losing any quality instructional time. As expected, a restroom break will be permitted during instructional times in the event of an emergency.

Student Flu Vaccine Clinic- October 18th

The 2021-22 Influenza vaccine (flu shot) will be given free of charge to students at Gentry Middle School on Monday, October 18th from 8:00-10:00 AM. The injectable flu vaccine (flu shot) is the only type of flu vaccine that will be offered. FluMist nasal spray will NOT be given this season. For your child to receive the flu vaccination, the 2021 Influenza “Flu” Vaccine School-Based Clinic Consent Form must be FULLY completed and SIGNED by a parent or legal guardian. You will be required to complete one separate form for EACH CHILD that you want vaccinated. Forms are due to the main office no later than Friday, October 15.

  • If you decline, or do not return the required permission form to the school, the free flu vaccine will NOT be given to your student at school.
  • If you return a completed consent form to the school and your child receives the flu vaccine elsewhere, it is important that you notify our school nurse immediately to avoid an unnecessary second dose.
  • If you you would like to have your student receive the Influenza vaccination, but they will be absent from GMS on October 18, feel free to have them attend ANY scheduled CPS Influenza vaccination clinic. Please see below a complete list of clinic dates and locations.
  • If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact our school nurse, Jennifer Ferguson, RN at 214-3246 or
