Picture Yourself Growing in First Grade
Welcome, I am Glad You Are Here...
Welcome Back! Even as I soak up the last remaining days of summer with my family, I am gearing up for an exciting, fresh school year. The smell of freshly sharpened pencils and squeaky-clean desks make me happy. If you are like me, you are looking forward to having a schedule, routines, and earlier bed times at home! I want to welcome you to the 1S family. I feel lucky to know some of the families reading this, and I am sincerely looking forward to meeting those of you that are new to Room 205. The most important thing is I am glad you are here. I look forward to working together to make this the best educational experience for your child.
School starts on Tuesday, September 6th. The first week of school can be filled with excitement, nerves, and even stress. I will be sure to do my best to ease any worries your child may have about First Grade! To make the transition easier, here are a few things to remember:
* Please pack a snack every day! We will definitely have snack on the first half day during the first week.
* If you have not ordered school supplies through Tatem, please bring them with you on the first day of school. When children feel prepared, it will ease many worries! You can find a school supply list here. Make sure you look for the 1st Grade list!
*Morning pickup - look for the sign that says Seymour! Once you get in the Seymour line, this is where we will pick up every morning and dismiss at the end of the day.
* Dismissal - At the end of the day, we will dismiss at the same door we entered. Until we get to know each other, please be patient with our dismissal routine.
I look forward to meeting you outside of Tatem on Tuesday morning!
In First Grade, we are going to learn and grow! Of course we will write stories, acquire new math skills, and conduct science experiments, but the majority of our day will be spent reading! We will read, read, and read some more. I am passionate about teaching reading, but more importantly, a love of reading! I look forward to Back to School night on September 14th to give you more detailed information about our curriculum.
In addition to academics, we spend a lot of time learning the unwritten curriculum.
This year, I will teach your child what it means to be a student. What does being a student look like? Sound like? Expected behaviors, study and work habits, and citizenship are the keys to being a successful student. Hopefully, they will be students for the rest of their lives so this is a very important job.
In addition, I am extremely proud of our students and the learning that takes place in 1S, and I encourage you to follow us on twitter at @Tatem1S. You will see snippets of our daily routines, exciting projects, and be given reminders or class information! I understand social media is overwhelming for most of us, and I will be sure to let you know of important information via email.
For now, enjoy the rest of summer. Soak up the last of the summer rays, catch the last of the lightening bugs, roast the last of the marshmallows, and feel excited for a wonderful year ahead.
Sincerely,
Kristin Seymour
Meet the Teacher
Who is Mrs. Seymour?
I was born in Syracuse, NY, but we quickly moved to South Jersey. I was raised in Collingswood, NJ, and I attended Collingswood High School. In high school, I was a three sport athlete and enjoyed being involved in everything. After graduating from Collingswood High School, I moved on to Rutgers University in New Brunswick where I played D1 lacrosse. Being a Division 1 athlete, taught me so many valuable lessons that I use in the classroom every day. Hard work, time management, and teamwork are just a few of the skills I took from the field into the classroom. Playing lacrosse in college gave me so many opportunities, including traveling all over the country playing the sport that I love! RU Rah Rah!
I was lucky enough to get a job coaching lacrosse at Rutgers New Brunswick while I continued my education. I entered the Graduate School of Education, and I couldn't wait to graduate and pursue my passion...teaching. Upon graduating from the GSE with my Masters Degree in teaching, I returned to South Jersey. This is my eighth year teaching First Grade in Haddonfield, and I couldn't be happier. I come to work everyday happy and eager to work with children. My goal is to ignite active learners, empower students to take responsibility for their learning, inspire courage to grow, and cultivate curiosity.
I am married to a wonderful man, David. Together, we are raising our 2 beautiful girls, Kailyn and Keira, and our son Wyatt. They are so much fun and they keep me on my toes! Of course, I can't forget Teddy. He is our sweet, spunky pup that gets into a TON of trouble.
I love being with my family, spending time in Ocean City, reading and running. I am lucky enough to stay involved in athletics, and I am currently an assistant lacrosse coach at Rutgers Camden! Go Scarlet Raptors!
That is just a little about me! I hope to learn more about all of your families in the coming days.
