BHS Library Website
Check out the new BHS Library Website! We've updated and changed the look of things but still have the same great information, including access to the Traveler Databases.
Skype with Author Sandhya Menon
Sandhya Menon, author of When Dimple Met Rishi, met with the Hornet Readers and Mrs. Earlywine's Creative Writing class via Skype recently. The Hornet Readers read When Dimple Met Rishi as one of their book club selections, and students prepared questions ahead of time for Ms. Menon about writing and her books. Ms. Menon was very gracious and complimented our students, saying that she really enjoyed speaking with us. Students also sampled Indian food from a local restaurant, donated in part by the Saline County Library.
BreakoutEDU in the BHS Library
We have hosted breakouts in the library this semester with Mrs. Evans-Stone's, Mr. Sisk's, and Mrs. Anderson's classes. The breakouts have been designed using BreakoutEDU's Lockboxes and locks and have been based on selected readings from the classrooms. Students used clues to try to solve the puzzles and open the different locks on the boxes.
We would love to help you and your classes by designing a breakout for your students! Please give us some time to plan and prepare, and we would be happy to create this experience, engaging your students in analytical thinking, teamwork, and deduction. Check out some of the pictures below from the classes as they worked to solve their locks!
Genrifying Our Library
We get lots of requests for books based on their genre. Students will often ask, "Where are your scary books?" or "Where are the mysteries?" So, in order to make our library more user-friendly, we are in the process labeling our fiction with colored labels to indicate the genre of the books. The Fiction section will still be organized alphabetically by the author's last name. We hope that having genre labels will help students to be able to easily identify books in their preferred reading genre.
BHS Choirs Visit the Library
We have loved our impromptu visits by the choirs this year in the library! They are awesome! They serenaded us on a few different occasions, even stopping by on Mrs. Padgett's birthday to sing Happy Birthday to her. We hope that their visits to the library continue in the future.
