7 Days of Winter
Winter is a season of recovery and preparation. Winter is not just a season, it's a celebration. Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth. It will be important for all of us, in the midst of the challenges in our world today, to take time to relax and reflect. Reflect on the things we can be thankful and grateful for. Reflect on moments with loved ones from our past and present.
This year, the students at Southwood School want to help you appreciate the wonders of Winter and reflect on the good things in our lives with our “7 Days of Winter”. It’s true that our traditional concert will look different, but the students and staff found a creative way to celebrate the season.
On seven different days, we will share a video link that will connect you with the images, sounds, and stories that make this season special for our students. We hope you are able to sit back, relax and enjoy our student presentations. We hope it takes you to a place of joy and gratitude. Feel free to share the link with grandparents, friends, and family. Below you will find the dates and our student house colour groups that are providing that day's presentation.

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all of you who were able to help out with our caring projects this fall. A lot of food items were brought in for our Drive Away Hunger which was donated to South East Helping Hands. As well, many food items and gifts were brought in to support the Steinbach Community Christmas project. Your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated.

Messages from the Office...
Students need to be dressed and ready to play outside! The morning and afternoon activity breaks are 25 minutes each. The actual time that the children are really outside depends on how quickly they are able to bundle up! They look forward to this time of socializing and playing in this wonderful fresh snow. Good boots, mittens and a hat - added to ski pants and parka will make all the difference between a child enjoying the outdoors or tolerating it.
The following guideline will be used for deciding when indoor recess should occur:
- -30 degrees Celsius (with wind chill) - indoors for all recess
- -25 to - 30 degrees Celsius (with a wind chill) partial recess indoors
In the case of multiple indoor recesses due to cold weather, teachers may choose to take their class outside for a 5 - 10 minute break if needed. At these times, the class will be very closely supervised.
