Benefiting our Fifth Ward & Northeast Houston Students
District B Community Event Invites You
The District B office in collaboration with the non-profit WAIIT will be hosting a neighborhood block party on Friday, Oct. 12th from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. on the 3200-3400 of Clinton Dr. (between Sydnor & Grove Streets). The event is free and open to the public, all ages. 100% of the proceeds from the beer and raffle sales will go directly to support programming and resources at several of our Fifth Ward and Northeast Houston schools.
The block party is an effort to engage and foster community amongst the new and longstanding residents in District B. The event is Oktoberfest themed and will include live music, food, craft beers, and games.
All proceeds from the beer and raffle sales will go to fund much needed programming and resources for several schools in Fifth Ward and northeast Houston. Our priority target schools will be those that continue and/or recently were removed from HISD’s/TEA’s list of academic underperformance for 4+ years (colloquially known as IR -improvement required).
We have already begun working with three schools in Fifth Ward: Bruce, Nat Q Henderson and Dogan Elementary through 3 STEM entrepreneurship programs CM Davis has funded.
The programs at Bruce and Nat Q are facilitated by TXRX Labs and the program at Dogan is facilitated by the local non-profit WAIIT and the Fifth Ward bee farm Bee 2 Bee Honey Collective. At Bruce TXRX Labs will begin training students in January on developing products using 3D laser printing and how to sell/showcase their creations. The Dogan collaboration kicked off this summer with the construction of a community garden. The students will raise bees and grow produce while learning how to sale these products within the community. The funds raised at the oktoBrew block party will help to continue funding these along with additional programs at 4 other schools.
While admission is free we are encouraging everyone to register to get a headcount ahead of the event: www.thebrewerydistrict.com.
