Kindergarten News ACES
Week Of October 16th
Highlights From Last Week....
In Reader's Workshop, we have been working on retelling the story by looking at the picture and asking "who" is in the picture and "what" is going on in the picture.
In Writer's Workshop, we worked on labeling our drawings so that other people can read our stories.
In Math, we work on decomposing numbers with totals up to 9. We wrote numerals 1-9 in order. We learned how to write the numbers and used the numeral to represent a quantity.
In Phonics, we practiced letter sounds and learned the sight words "we" and "up", please practice these words at home. Our letters of the week were "a" and "g".
In Social Studies, we are working on community helpers. Our focus was to determine what a community helper was and learn about Fire Safety.
A peek at our learning this week...
In Reader's Workshop, we are going to learn to look at the picture AND the first letter of the word to see if it makes sense! We will introduce the students to "Lips the Fish" to get our lips ready for the sound the first letter makes. Many of our friends do not know their letters or the sounds they make. We sent home some flashcards for you to work with your child each night. Please flash the card for the letter and the sounds they make. For example, B says /b/. This will help your child advance in their reading as we are looking at the picture and the FIRST letter. If they know the letter and sound, they will master this skill. Thank you in advance for your help! In order for your children to reach optimal success at school, we need to work as a team! Thank you!
In Writer's Workshop, we are going to learn to write our stories across pages.
In Math, we will work on decomposing numbers with totals up to 10. We will write numerals 1-10 in order. We will learn how to write the numbers and use the numeral to represent a quantity. We will also solve word problems by acting them out.
In Phonics, we will be practicing letter sounds and learning the sight words "it" and "and". Please practice these words at home. Our letters of the week will be "s" and "d".
In Social Studies, we will continue our unit on Community.

Notes from Mrs. Maillet
Big shout out to Maggie for donating Wipes and Playdough and to Keira for donating Playdough!! Thank you SO much!!
We are still in need of Clorox wipes. If you would be willing to donate them to the class, it would be greatly appreciated. We are trying SO hard to keep the tables, chairs, door handles and everything else as clean as we can. Thank you for your help!!
Notes from Mrs. Potter
Keep up the great work with the reading logs! This week, I will send home a decodable book that features many of our sight words. I would love to see this book show up on the reading logs and see that your child could read this book to you!!
Thank you so much for those of you who donated tissues and wipes to our classroom!! :)
Notes from Mrs. Goldthwaite
We are working on writing our own stories. These stories are true stories. It would be helpful if you had a picture of your son/ daughter doing something with family or something they like doing. If you have a picture of a pet that they could talk about that would be helpful. I will return the pictures to you.
Thanks to Hunter Dorion and his family they donated some supplies for our room. The friends in our class love the Playdough colors and can't wait to have the treat of pretzels.
This week we learned about fire safety. The big question? Does your family have a safe place to gather when there is an emergency at your home?
Thank you for your continued support!
Notes from Mrs. Marcoux
Last week we learned about fire fighters and all they do to help keep us safe. Did your children come home singing the 911 song?
I will be sending home letter cards as well as our sight words this week for each of our students to practice at home. The children are doing a GREAT job with these in the classroom and I'd love to see them practice at home.
We are still hoping for more disinfecting wipes and play-doh.
I have placed the book orders and will send them home as soon as they come in.
Thank you for all that you do!
Notes from Miss Driscoll
Again, I will be sending home our new letters and words. Please continue practicing with your child. They are doing great with the letter and word cards. A great way to practice is by having your child try to recognize the letters and words they know in the books you read together! For math, please practice writing and recognizing numbers 0-10. We have been learning number poems to help students remember how to write the number. I will be sending home a copy of this as well!
Our October book order is due Tuesday, October 17! Please be sure to send orders in or use the online feature of you decide to order books.
With the colder months coming our class can always use tissues!
Thank you for all you do. Have a great week!
