November topic: Using Alabama Virtual Library and Britannica School for research

All English classes came to the library for a lesson on using Britannica Middle School for research. Students learned to create a Resource Packet and place encyclopedia articles, images, videos, and magazine and web articles as well as cite their sources.

NOVEMBER COLLABORATIONS

Mrs. Murray's and Mrs. Lockins' English classes completed their brochure projects and presented them to their fellow class members.


Mrs. Williamson presented "Reality Check" to the 7th grade NFBL students in the library on November 16. "Reality Check" is sponsored by the Dallas County Extension Service with Ms. Shalean Briggs, extention agent. Along with Ms. Briggs, assisting Mrs. Williams were RBH alumni volunteers, Mrs. Thrash, Assistant Principal, Mrs. Williams,7th grade guidance counselor, and Mrs. Davis


The Alabama State Department of Education (Alabama Reading Initiative) met in the library on November 17.


Plickers demo: Mrs. Davis demonstrated how to use Plickers to the faculty during a PLA meeting.

I'm not comfortable being preachy, but more people need to start spending as much time in the library as they do on the basketball court.

R. B. HUDSON LIBRARY/MEDIA INFO:

The R. B. Hudson Library/Media-center is located on the east end of the first floor; however, at one time it was located upstairs and the present library was two classrooms - one being home economics, a class no longer offered. Today the media-center houses over 7000 books and 5 student computers.

December 17: AR Christmas party. To qualify, students must read one book with at least 100 pages and earn at least 80% on the corresponding AR quiz.
