What are your rights and responsibilities in a digital world?

www.FBI.com

The digital world is like the real world. It is a harsh place full of emotions and danger. You have a right to look at other people’s work, as long as you say where you got there work from. You also have the right to be on the computer but you have a responsibility not to use it too much or do bad things on it like plagiarism, stalking- and other bad things. This technology has improved the worlds knowledge but should be used correctly. So dont ne mean to others, dont exept people as friends that you dont know, dont post things you dont want your mum to see...

How can you use social networks safely and responsibly?

When you are on a social network you need to remember that other people can see what you load on- even the bad people. You need to be responsible to stop yourself and other people getting hurt. When you are on online on a game or on a website like Facebook you need to be responsible by setting your settings so only your friends can see what you upload and you have to be carful not to let strangers be your friend, even if they are a friends friend it does not mean that you can trust them. You have the right to say no to people online that you don’t know. You also need to set a secure password (I will explain how latter on) and a username that does not revile your true identity.

What should you avoid doing?

www.bbcBightsize.co.uk

When you are on the internet you need to remember that when you put something o the internet you cane not take it off so don’t post things that you don’t want people to see unless you have your safety settings on. You should not trust friend of friends on social networks or people you don’t know so don’t post things that they can see that you don’t want a boss or someone later in life to see. You should avoid not putting safe passwords on and also avoid letting random people on to your friends list on social networks.

How to use the privacy settings on a variety of social networks?

www.FBI.com

After you have gone onto your chosen network you need to go into your privacy settings. If you want your friends to see what you post onto the main section then you need to select ‘friends’. If you want your friend’s friend to see what you post then you need to select ‘friend’s of friend’. You can also have a ‘family’ setting to either allow your family to see what you put up or not see what you post. Or you can post it world wide where everyone can see it but I would advise you not to because you might regret it later on In life when people like your boss and other people can see it and then bad people can either use it against you or not employ you because there is someone else who doesn't have embarrassing stuff and a better reputation.

Internet problems

Using the internet too much can cause problems, such as;

depresion

anxitey

Intravert

unsociable

PIN numbers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_identification

First you should know what PIN stands for: personal identification number. It is a password containing numbers, letters and symbols that you use to protect something like an account so that random people can not access what you have on your account or social network or other protected places. You should have a pin number that is not personal so that it is confidential and people can not guess it. If you have a secure pin number, when you enter it the computer will grant you access. Pins are used on many systems like banking systems so you should always have a secure password that is different for every single account you want

to secure. Your pin number should never be printed or recorded unless you have it on your computer which is secure but then if you forget then you cant get on your computer- so ie don’t forget it. When you type your pin into a machine it is always a safe transaction so you don’t need to worry about them taking your money.

Biometrics refers to metrics related to human characteristics and traits. Biometrics authentication is used in computer science as a form of identification and access control. It is also used to identify individuals in groups that are under surveillance. They are used to describe and categorize behavioural characteristics.

Encryption

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encryption

In cryptography, encryption is the process of encoding messages or information in such a way that only authorized parties can read it. In an encryption scheme, the message or information, referred to as plaintext, is encrypted using an encryption algorithm, generating ciphertext that can only be read if decrypted. For technical reasons, an encryption scheme usually uses a pseudo-random encryption key generated by an algorithm. It is in principle possible to decrypt the message without possessing the key, but, for a well-designed encryption scheme, large computational resources and skill are required. An authorised recipient can easily decrypt the message with the key, provided by the originator to recipients but not to unauthorised interceptors.

Forensic Computing

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_forensics

Computer forensics (sometimes known as computer forensic science) is a branch of digital legal evidence found in computers and digital storage media. The goal of computer forensics is to examine digital media in a forensically sound manner with the aim of identifying, preserving, recovering, analysing and presenting facts and opinions about the digital information

Although it is most often associated with the investigation of a wide variety of computer crime, computer forensics may also be used in civil proceedings. The discipline involves similar techniques and principles to data recovery, but with additional guidelines and practices designed to create a legal audit trail.

Conclusion- So how do you protect yourself online?

Well, first of all if you look back on my work you shall see the section on pin numbers. You need to have a good strong password to help protect your identity but there are other ways to do it. First you can just not post anything that you want anyone to see, so you can put ob some secure settings. Also if you go online onto a new website or in fact on any website you can press the black arrow then it willl turn green which can protect your data from anyone acsessing.

I asked 7 teenagers about their experience online. All of them used social media but not all their parents knew. One boy was cyber bullied because he didnt tell his parents and he acsepted any one who asked to be his friend.

Be safe online, set your settings.
