Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Leon, Room 34
I am a native Southern Californian from the San Diego area. After four years of college, I graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Whittier College. In 1990 I student taught at both Whittier High School and Dexter Intermediate School. Afterward I was hired to teach in the South Bay Area at a private school. I was very fortunate to find a job at New River Elementary in 1993. This year will mark my thirtieth year of teaching: Eight years in elementary school and twenty-two years in middle school.
I have been married for twenty-one years. My husband also works in education. We have a nineteen-year-old son who is a sophomore at Long Beach State and a sixteen-year-old daughter who is a sophomore at Long Beach Polytechnic High School. My hobbies are: reading biographical histories-especially about the kings and queens of England; gardening- I love my cymbidium orchids: walking my doggies near coastal parks. I also love to watch mysteries series that are historically based-Father Brown/Sherlock Holmes/Murdoch Mysteries.
