Week of February 8, 2021

Dear Pirate Families,

We hope this finds you safe and well!

We appreciate your cooperation as Mother Nature seems to be on a 'snow-roll' lately!

From Cathy Shea, TRRS Nurse Coordinator:

The "School Health Program" designed to improve, protect, and promote the health of all students has been delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions. As a result of COVID-19, the school nurses will not be providing students with health screenings this year. Please contact your child's school nurse, if there is a specific concern regarding your child's health.

Furthermore, the Academy of Pediatrics recommends all children to have a yearly wellness visit. If your child has received his/her annual physical from a pediatrician, please forward a copy of the physical to your school nurse, Mrs. Marella.

Scenes from North Dover

Securly

Securly Classroom is a tool our teachers have access to that enables them to provide students with over-the-shoulder support. It allows the teacher a look into students’ screens so that they can guide, monitor, and communicate with students when class is in session and students are signed into their district-provided Google accounts. Teachers can push out links, bring students to specific sites as a group, and guide them on their screens if they are struggling.

The program is enabled whenever a student is logged into their Google account through Toms River Schools. As a notification to students and parents that the program is in use, the district will be enabling a message box that will appear on the screen for students when a session is active.

Please note, during a live session, the browser tab that a student has open is visible to teachers, as well as a listing of titles for other tabs. The teacher does not have access to the site or information on any other tabs and cannot navigate to those tabs; nor does the teacher have access to the computer’s desktop, menus or other programs.

Edmentum and iReady Update

Toms River Regional Schools currently uses two online platforms to help individualize student instruction in ELA and Mathematics. Edmentum Exact Path is used for ELA, while iReady is used in Mathematics. In order to progress on these platforms, students need to complete their assigned lessons. Each week, they are required to complete 40 minutes in their learning pathway on iReady and master one to two skills in Exact Path. Student participation and progress on these platforms are monitored weekly. Together, with your child's teacher, please encourage them to complete these tasks. If you have any questions about these programs please reach out to your child's teacher or Mrs. O'Donnell. As always, thank you for your continued support at home.

GIRLS ON THE RUN

We are excited to announce that North Dover will be offering a before school Girls on the Run program this spring. This program is available to girls in grades 4 and 5 who can commit to meeting 1x per week before school starts, beginning in early April after we return from the break. Girls on the Run reaches girls at a critical stage, strengthening their confidence at a time when society begins to tell them they can’t. Underscoring the important connection between physical and emotional health, our program addresses the whole girl when she needs it the most. Our program will combine fitness and real talk sessions to improve confidence, develop character through life skills, connect with others, resolve conflict and help others, while at the same time assist in creating a healthy mind and body connection through increased physical fitness. Please inquire to Ms. Okuniewicz at mokuniewicz@trschools.com if you feel you have a student who will be interested in our program! We are excited to host our young ladies on this fun journey.
