Hi, this is Aly and Chelsea from Ms. Gawalis’s Advanced Math Class. In Ms.Gawalis’s Math Class we are doing many fun and interesting lessons. We have been working on adding decimals and learning different ways to represent the decimals. For example, we would have to write the decimal in word form, expanded form, and fraction form. After every lesson we work on our enrichment projects. Many people in our class are doing a math board game. You will have to include in your board game adding decimals just like we are working on now. Some projects you can do are creating a google slideshow showing multiplication problems, create an anchor chart, and create a math board game, and many more. We love math!
Hi, this is MIkey from Mr. Brown’s 5th grade class. I got into the Junior Olympics and qualified for States. In class we are learning lots of amazing facts in science and math. In science, we learned about where leaves go when they fall and how they decompose. The class and I learned when the leaves sit and rot they mold and mushroom take over the leaves and decompose them into the soil. I learned this can provide the soil with rich nutrients. We are starting to learn about “Do worms really eat soil”? Which I think will be a fun topic. In math we are learning about decimals and how to read them. We learned when we are reading decimals we have to say “and” to read it correctly. In math we are also learning how to understand and write decimals in expanded form and word form.
Hi, this is Stephen from Mrs. Riccoboni’s 3rd grade class. I like how Mrs. Riccoboni decorated her classroom. There is a lot to look at. I like practicing my multiplication facts with flashcards. In reading we are learning how the human body works. Writing paragraphs is fun. I like it! I like how if we fill up the jar of marbles we get to have a party.
In the Classrooms
All of the third grade classes are beginning a unit in reading on “How the Human Body Works: Systems”. We are continuing to write essays in response to our reading, and we’re becoming much better writers. Our classes have also begun studying and learning about multiplication and division. We are very busy having fun learning!
Mrs. D’Ulisse’s first grade class completed a unit in reading on the Human Body. On Monday our classroom became a hospital with various learning centers centered on the human body. The students became doctors and nurses, as they wore gloves during the math and reading activities. Also in math, the students are practicing solving subtraction word problems with various strategies, such as comparing two groups of objects. We will continue to practice related facts, and practice subtraction and addition facts to 20. We are logging into Iready and Reading eggs on our chrome books to practice our fluency skills. We are also reading stories from our book Snapshots to partners and answering comprehension questions in writing. We will start a unit on fairy tales this week, and learn about stories from far away places. We will share and discuss how these stories are similar and different. We will continue to practice our creative writing skills, by writing about various parts of the story. It is going to be a fun and exciting week of learning in first grade!!
In the technology lab Mr. Rielly’s classes have been learning about digital citizenship. Grades K-2 learned about the cyber 5 internet safety rules on abcya.com. Third graders made internet safety posters and grades 4-5 created posters explaining how to deal with cyberbullying. Please try some of these great digital citizenship resources at home.

Mrs. Black’s ESL classes have been reading and writing about cultural celebrations from around the world. We have learned about the history of Diwali, Halloween, and Dia de los Muertos. We will be learning about Veterans Day and the branches of the military in the coming weeks. We will also learn about the history and meaning of Thanksgiving! Our classes are doing an amazing job learning English while celebrating our cultural differences!
