Language Arts

  • Reads at a level 'B' (repeated patterns in text, 1-2 lines of print per page, and simple story line)
  • Recognizes 18-22 sight words
  • Recognizes all uppercase letters, 24 lowercase letters, and 22 letter sounds
  • Recognizes 13-15 Concepts of Print (front/back cover, title, title page, letters vs. words, left to right print, points to each word, punctuation: . ? !)
  • Phonemic Awareness (rhyming & identifying words with the same beginning sound)
  • Uses pictures to tell a story in writing
  • Writing using correct beginning sounds
  • Learning to spell introduced sight words

Math

  • Identifies 4-6 shapes (square, circle, triangle, rectangle, trapezoid, hexagon, cube, cone, cylinder, sphere)
  • Recognizes 16-21 numbers (single digits & teen numbers)
  • Writes numbers 0-10 without a model
  • Counts to 50
  • Creates a pattern

Looking Ahead to Semester 2

Language Arts


  • Recognizes all uppercase/lowercase letters and 31 letter sounds
  • Recognizes 40-50 sight words
  • Recognizes 18-20 Concepts of Print
  • Reads at a level 'D' (familiar topics, illustrations support the text, text has more compound and multisyllabic words)
  • Phonemic Awareness (rhyming, identifying words with same beginning sound, blending & taking apart sounds in words)
  • Writing (uses correct major sounds, spaces, punctuation; spells known sight words; writes left to right; rereads own writing)

  • Identifies 8-10 shapes
  • Recognizes numbers to 100
  • Writes numbers 0-20 without a model
  • Counts to 100
  • Counts backwards from 20
  • Extends a growing pattern
  • Adds & Subtracts objects from 10
