Concord Academy Petoskey News
December 2022
Director's Corner
It's hard to believe that we only have 2 and a half weeks of school left before our holiday break! Holidays are an exciting time and we are adding to that excitement here at school too. Our building has been beautifully decorated with festive trees and lights! We had our winter music concert featuring our Middle School Choir and our Concert, Symphonic, and High School Bands last night. Plus we still have our Elementary Winter Musical, Broadway Santa coming up.
Speaking of performances, congratulations to our High School Theatre for this year's first production of Bedtime Stories (As told by our Dad) (Who Messed Them Up) by Ed Monk! The students were phenomenal as were Ms. Sedestrom and Mr. DeSimone!
Finally, we want you to know that it is because of you that we are an amazing school! We wish to express our sincere gratitude toward our entire school community for your continued help and support. Most recently, we would like to recognize all of our families who were able to help make this year's school-wide Thanksgiving Feast a huge success! Thank you and may you have a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season!

How to Effectively Communicate with School Staff
Parents/guardians are often discouraged when they attempt to communicate with administrators and board of directors members and are sent back to teachers in order to resolve a problem their child may be experiencing in school.
To prevent that frustration, parents/guardians can become informed about the “chain of command,” or where to begin the communication sequence regarding their problem or concern. Many parent/guardian questions are easily and completely answered by communicating directly with the educator in charge of the class or program. Each situation should first be addressed at whatever level the initial action was taken, before moving on to the next level.
The easiest way to communicate is via email; a phone call is the next preferable way. Here at Concord Academy Petoskey we expect that all concerns be treated the way that we teach our students to, with respect. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
Bear River Martial Arts Classes at Concord
Mrs. Bonnie Zowada, instructor of Bear River Martial Arts, will be conducting classes at Concord beginning Tuesday, December 6th, 2022. She has been teaching since the fall of 2013. Currently, she is a 1st Degree Black Belt with a test for 2nd Degree coming up in January of 2023. The kind of karate she teaches is called Tang Soo Do, which is a traditional martial art with roots in Korea and Japan. Tang Soo Do focuses on open-hand techniques and kicks. Practicing improves the mind, body, and spirit connection. It also develops confidence, respect for self and others as well as a stronger body!
Please direct any questions to Bonnie Zowada at bearriver.tsd@gmail.com.
