History: Write a brief history about your destination.

The first Europeans settlers to come to Brazil were the Portuguese, led by Pedro Cabral. The Portuguese found around seven million native Indians. Most tribes were traveling from place to place, with only limited farming and temporary places to live. Brazil has the sixth largest population in the world- about 148 million people- which has doubled in the past 30 years! Because of its size, there are only 15 people per sq. km. The immigrant Portuguese language was greatly influenced by the numerous Indian and African people they encountered, but it remains the most commonly spoken language in Brazil today.

Culture: Write about your destinations culture.

The culture of Brazil presents a very diverse nature showing that an ethnic and cultural mixing occurred in the colonial period including, Native Brazilians, Portuguese and Africans. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries Italian, German, Spanish, Ukrainians, Polish, Arab and Japanese immigrants lived in Brazil and played a huge role in its culture, which created a variety of cultural and ethnic society in Brazil.

Optional: About the traveler. Who are you? Have you ever traveled?

My name is Juliet Garcia and I am twelve years old. Almost every summer I have gone out of state with my grandparents for vacation. I LOVE to travel, and to be able to tell stories about where I have been, and what I have experienced. I love to travel to any place as long as there is warm temperature, and an ocean! I have traveled to California, Hawii, Washington DC, Florida, Texas, and Yellowstone. I finally got my passport so I can travel out of the country. I really want to go to Alaska!
