Hand Soap FYI
Recently, there has been a concern raised that the soap being used in Spooner Elementary may be causing or exacerbating dry skin. We haven't changed the soap used in the elementary in years and haven't had concerns before. Nonetheless, we did consult with our medical advisor to ensure we were using an appropriate product. His response is below:
Dear Spooner Schools Students and Parents,
Recently I was made aware that there were questions concerning the use of the commercial soap the Spooner Area School District uses. After reviewing the MSDS for the school’s soap, I feel that it is safe for students when used as directed. There is no alcohol in the soap, which may be an irritant to the skin. Winter weather in Wisconsin can be very irritating to the skin and cause dry, cracked skin. Of course there are numerous medical conditions that can cause skin irritation also. If your child has cracked skin, routinely applying a non-scented lotion may help. If symptoms persist, please contact your medical provider or dermatologist for further treatment options.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Eichten, MD
