Kinder AIM
Know & Go
Our First Day of AIM!
Today was an exciting first day of AIM for our new kindergarten class! I have so much I want to tell and show them but decided on a quick tour of our three rooms as a start. Then we jumped right in to our "problem" for the year. During the next several weeks we will use this "problem" to introduce the engineer design process (problem, brainstorm, design, build, test, re-test, present) and our PBL approach to learning. Our "problem" is related to encouraging rabbits to move into a new community that we will be designing.
We frequently use the Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach in AIM where students are presented with an unstructured problem, together generate a list of questions that need to be answered in order to help solve the problem and then brainstorm and develop their solutions.
Today we created a list of things we needed to know about rabbits before we could start developing a community and then together we started reading about rabbits to search for answers.
With the last few minutes we tried a stick challenge - that kept them stumped for a little while (which is a good thing)!
