We have been studying:

  1. How to write informational writing pieces to tell how to make lemonade.
  2. How to balance equations in math.
  3. How text features help us read and understand a topic.
  4. How amazing dragonflies are.
  5. What forces and motions are responsible for.

Fourth Grade

For the month of April, fourth grade students will be learning about the decimal place values of tenths and hundredths. The students will learn to convert decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals as well as convert tenths to hundredths. Along with this the students will learn how to represent decimals values using visual models and number lines. Furthermore, the students will add and subtract decimal values and solve word problems involving decimals. For reading and social studies, the fourth grade students will summarize the causes and effects of the Spanish-American War, the land boom and bust of 1920's Florida, The Great Depression, Florida's role in World War II, and Florida's population diversity. In science, fourth grade is studying the life cycles of animals, the difference and application of inherited and learned characteristics of plants and animals, and the relationships of plant and animal interdependence.

Sunshine State Young Readers Award Voting Celebration

Our Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Program is coming to an end. The SSYRA Program is a statewide reading motivation program for students in grades 3 through 8, in a collaborative effort between the Florida Association of Media in Education (FAME) and the Florida Department of Education (DOE). The purpose of the SSYRA Program is to encourage students to read independently for pleasure and to read books that are on, above, and below their reading level in order to improve their reading fluency. Our DLE Eagles have been reading books from the special list all year long and its time to vote for our favorite book! The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who’ve read 3 or more SSYRA books and passed the Reading Counts test for each will, attend a voting celebration on April 9th in the media center. The Volusia County Supervisor of Elections will join us setting up voting booths and giving the students SSYRA Ballots for our mock voting. This year we will have 42 students who will vote for their favorite SSYRA book and celebrate their participation and success. We can’t wait to hear which book wins as the top SSYRA for 2018-19.t
