Whose to Blame for the Death of Romeo and Juliet?
Some people may think the death of Romeo and Juliet was because of the family feud, but the real cause was because of Friar Laurence. If Friar Laurence didn’t get involved by marrying Romeo and Juliet behind both families back, then it would not have lead to them dying because they wanted to be together. Juliet cries,”O nurse, how shall this be prevented? My husband is on earth, my faith in heaven”(Act III scene V). If Friar Laurence didn’t marry them then Juliet wouldn’t want to respect their marriage and rather die than marry another man. Friar Laurence thought he was doing a good deed by marrying the in love couple, but all he did was making Romeo and Juliet hide something from their families and that resulted in Juliet’s family trying to force her to marry Paris. Also, if Friar Laurence did not give Juliet the potion to fake her death then Romeo and Juliet would not have died. This stated in a scene of Romeo and Juliet,” ...This distilled liquor...no warmth, no breath, shall testify thou livest”(Act IV Scene I). So, if Friar Laurence didn’t give Juliet a potion to fake her death then Romeo would not killed himself to be with her in the afterlife. Friar Laurence also had guilt and left the vault when he saw Romeo's dead corpse next to Juliet's corpse. He had guilt because his plan didn’t go how he thought it would which resulted in the death in Romeo and Juliet.
