Welcome to Oceanography A

Fall 2019: 14 week session

I will be your instructor for the Fall 2019 Georgia Virtual School Oceanography A course. As in face-to-face school, success is achieved through common effort by student, teacher, and parent. The online world is the same. There are a few things that students and parents need to do prior to beginning the course (14 week start date: 9/3/19). Attached you will find a detailed welcome letter and the course syllabus/schedule. They both contain a lot of important information so take the time to carefully read them prior to the start of the course.

Hopefully we will get a chance to talk by phone. I will be making welcome phone calls and leaving my contact information that you can use when it is a convenient time. I look forward to a successful spring semester. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Fall 2019 Due Dates

During the spring, assignments are due EVERY WEDNESDAY, starting the second week of class (Your first due date will be Wednesday, September 11th).

Please make sure you are working on the course diligently EVERY DAY, or you will quickly fall behind.

NOTE: As of the Spring 2019 semester, assignments on the schedule for the Wednesday due date are due the NEXT Wednesday. This is to account for any unforseen problems that might occur on Wednesday. You should be turning in assignments as they occur on the schedule so you are not left in the lurch on Wednesday, should you have any difficulties.

Fall 2019 Late Work Penalties - NEW as of FALL 2018!

  • 1-2 days late - 20% point reduction
  • 3 or more days late - permanent zero in the gradebook

I will be entering zeros in the gradebook Thursday mornings for assignments that were due the previous night.
