Thanks Miss T
We wish to inform you that Miss Alana Tissingh will not be returning from Maternity Leave as previously planned. Alana is putting her mother hat on, and her focus now will be on her young family. We wish Alana and her family every success and thank Miss T greatly for her efforts at Stanley Avenue School over the last five years. Alana started at Stanley Avenue teaching in the middle school and then made her way up to Team Ruru. It was here she found her niche, encouraging and supporting our Year 7/8 students to be the best versions of themselves. Alana took a strong lead in school sports, particularly Netball and Basketball and organised our last two Winter Olympics Sport Camps.
On behalf of our school whānau we wish Alana, George and Elianna all the very best.

Term 2 Staffing News
Room 2
The Room 2 Class Community and Stanley Avenue School are very fortunate to have Whaea Adreena Bishop be able to continue as the Room 2 teacher for the remainder of the year. This allows for the Room 2 learning programme, environment and class culture to continue to progress seamlessly. We are fortunate to continue to have Whaea Adreena’s expertise within Team Ruru.
Room 6
Due to the above changes, Jessica Roycroft will be the Room 6 classroom teacher from the start of Term 2 through until the end of the school year. The previous staffing arrangement was for Adreena Bishop to move to Room 6 from her Room 2 position when Alana Tissingh came back from Maternity Leave.
Jessica has worked at our school in a range of part time positions over the last five years. She is a relational teacher, who builds strong connections with students, staff, parents and whānau alike. Jessica is a well-rounded teacher, whose major strengths are in Literacy and The Arts.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Kate Corrigan for her efforts teaching Room 6 during Term 1. Kate has set the Room 6 students up for a strong and successful year.
Mr Byers principal sabbatical-Term 2, 2022
As part of our Primary Principals Collective Agreement, every five years NZ Principals are entitled to apply for a term of Sabbatical Leave. The purpose of this is for Principals to carry out study and/ or an inquiry as well as have some rejuvenation time. The statistics of Principals leaving the profession due to burn out is alarming and has been reported on in the media recently.
Towards the end of 2021 I was awarded Sabbatical Leave for Term 2 this year. I will be carrying out an inquiry focusing on ‘Whānau Engagement’. This inquiry will see me visit a range of schools, observing effective practice and generating new ideas that I can bring back to Stanley Avenue School.
Additionally, it will allow me more quality family time, where I can be a more present husband and father.
Di Meyler, will be Acting Principal in my absence and Chris Finucane will be Acting Deputy Principal. Angela Valencia, will be the Team Ruru leader for the term. I am excited for Di, Chris and Angela to be given the opportunity to further their leadership experience. This will only enhance Stanley Avenue School’s leadership capability and capacity moving forward.
I am grateful to the Stanley Avenue Board of Trustees for allowing me this opportunity and to the Stanley Avenue staff for their support and encouragement.

ROBOCUP 2021
Room 13 entered the ROBOCUP Junior NZ Online competition at the beginning of Term 4 2021. As previously stated in our 2021 newsletters our teams did amazingly well, taking out 4 of the 6 categories of the competition (and all 4 of the categories that we entered, 2 teams did the art challenge).
They each won a new Spike Robotics kit for the school valued at $758.94 for each kit.
