Evergreen Community Update

Our Mission
Principal's Message
Hello EMS Community,
Last week was another great week here at Evergreen and we are looking forward to keeping the momentum going. Expectations are set and students are starting to settle into their classes. Things will ramp up this week as we tardy sweeps go into effect. Students have had two weeks to learn the building and get acclimated with their lockers and and all six of their classes without being firmly held accountable for getting their on time. Starting this week, all students who are late to a class must report to a central location in the building and receive a tardy slip in order to get into their class. If tardy, they will also receive a lunch detention. This is nothing new as students followed the same expectations last year and it worked well all year long. All related expectations have been taught through Advisory class over the first two weeks of school so our staff is excited to see the sense of urgency of getting to class on time moving forward.
Don't forget about Back to School Night this Tuesday evening from 5:30-7:30. We are looking forward to seeing you here and going through your student's schedule.
Picture Day has come and gone. If for some reason your student was absent or missed getting their picture taken, we will have a retake day on October 22nd. More information will be coming out soon regarding that day.
Below are a few pictures and more information about the current happening around Evergreen.
Have a great week!
Mr. Gulley
Evergreen Principal

The area where we've struggled the most in the past have been during 1st period with students who show up late to school.
PARENTS: If your student will be late to school, please call our attendance line or send them with a note. We are trying to be as consistent as possible with holding students accountable for getting to school on time. We've often had students show up late to school stating that their mom/dad woke up late or had to stop some other place on their way to school. Please know that if they do not have a note or you do not call the attendance line, their tardy will be unexcused.
Picture Day
Back to School Night - Updated
Classes will only be 9 minutes with 5 minutes in between to allow you time to get to the next class. Teachers will be prepared to share with you the class expectations of the class as well as what students will be learning throughout the year.
Even though we have added an additional 33 parking spaces in the back of the building, we do not have enough parking to accommodate all of our families. If you live nearby, please consider walking to the event or parking in the neighborhood.
Our EMS Student Store will be open tomorrow evening during the event. We have new Evergreen attire/Spirit Wear this year that we'd love for you to stop by and take a look at.
- EMS Lanyards = $1
- EMS Short Sleeve T-shirts = $5
- EMS Long Sleeve T-shirts = $10
- EMS Sweatshirts = $20
For now, we can only accept cash or check but we are in the process of getting credit/debit card access.
See you all there!!

GHS Homecoming Football Game this Friday
There are very strict rules for this season that you should be aware of:
- All students must have their school ID card if they expect to get into the game. GHS staff will be working the gates and will not know who our EMS students are. Without the ID card, students will be turned away. No exceptions. ID cards were issued on last Wednesday during Picture Day.
- The only way that students can enter the game without their ID card is if they are accompanied by their parent to the game.
- EMS students MUST be in their designated area during the game, which is in the bleachers near the end-zone. The exception to this is if they are accompanied by their parent.
- EMS students are not allowed to mingle in the Glencoe High School student section. If students violate this rule, a parent will be called and asked to come and pick up the student.

Game days, each squad will play a game at a designated time in the morning. We, as always, reserve the right to adjust the tentative schedule as we get more details on the gyms that we have access to for the weeks of the program and the number of kids and volunteers.
LITTLE DRIBBLERS Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th grade
WE FOCUS ON PLAYER DEVELOPMENT THROUGH THE COACHING OF KEY BASKETBALL FUNDAMENTALS, INDIVIDUAL WORK ETHIC AND TEAMWORK.
We are a parent volunteer run, basketball organization, serving the kids of the Glencoe community. We make the game of basketball fun through skill based stations and game play. We make teaching the game accessible for all volunteers, through simple drill instruction and focusing on the fact that we are on the court to encourage our kids.
We will also have the Glencoe High School basketball teams and coaches as guest coaches each week.
VOLUNTEER!
We had over 250 volunteers last year!!! As many of you know, Little Dribblers volunteering is as much about giving kids high fives and a positive experience on the court as it is teaching the game through our stations. You do not need prior basketball experience to volunteer for Little Dribblers. We at GYB strongly believe in the positive coaching experiences we can and should be giving our kids, to help them be successful on and off the court.
