A Note From the Front Office

Greetings Cimarron Community!

Please remember that any person picking up a student must be listed either as a household member or as an emergency contact in the student profile. If someone is picking up your student, and they are not listed as an emergency contact, the student will not be released until we have written permission from a parent, which will cause a delay in the release time. To avoid these delays, please verify your student’s emergency contact list in Infinite Campus by following these steps:

1. click the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner

2. click More at the bottom

3. click then Demographics

4. When you scroll down under each student profile, you will see the people listed as Non- Household Relationships for your student.

If you want to add or remove emergency contacts, please complete this request form. You will receive a confirmation email once a contact has been added or removed.

MIL/BOND Updates

At the October 11 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Kane addressed some misinformation about the Mill Levy Override (5A) and Bond (5B) that was published in the 2022 General Election Tabor Book (sometimes referred to as the "Blue Book"). Please watch the video here.

Everything published in the Tabor Book (whether pro or con) is submitted by citizens and must be printed as submitted. Unfortunately, there is no fact-checking process prior to publication. You can review the summary of this video by click on this link- Written Summary (claims vs. facts)

We encourage you to share this information with your family and friends to help address some of the misinformation that was published.

Please also be sure to watch the Parker Region Video in which Kristin Drury, Executive Director of Schools for the Parker region, shares how Parker area schools are funded, and how our feeder schools would benefit from additional dollars.

The 12th Annual 8th Grade Career Expo is coming up on Wednesday, November 2, 2022! For this free event, we will be heading to the DCSD Legacy Campus where students will get the opportunity to engage in exciting, hands-on career exploration experiences with 40+ industry partners/vendors. They will also get to explore the industry career pathways that will be available at the Legacy Campus. Students will eat lunch upon our return to Cimarron, and can pack or buy a school lunch as usual.

If you haven't already done so, please register your 8th grader for the event through My School Bucks. The link provided below will connect you to the location to register.

Thank you for your swift attention to this opportunity. We look forward to sharing this experience with your 8th grader, as they look towards exploring future career aspirations!

CMAS Testing

The state test, CMAS, is very important to Cimarron Middle School. When families look to move into our community, the first consideration before buying a house is the performance of the schools. Cimarron MIddle School is scored on the growth and achievement of the state assessment. When our enrollment is up, we get better funding to provide our students with the best experiences possible. Our staff uses these scores to guide curricular resources and programming for our students.

We are proud of the 91.2% of students that took this assessment last year. We are grateful for the way our community prioritizes education and hope to continue to have an outstanding high rate of participation. This prepares students for standardized testing in their future, including college readiness assessments or a standardized assessment for the career students choose.

If you choose to not have your student take this assessment, you will need to first set up a meeting with the grade level assistant principal. At this meeting we want to gain understanding of your reasoning, as well as talk about the importance of this assessment. This process for excusal is available until December 2nd to opt out of the state assessment (CMAS). Meaning meetings with the grade level AP will need to take place before this deadline date. There will not be any excusals past this date.

Counseling At Cimarron

Each year we ask that our students complete the "Needs Assessment Survey". This produces data to help us determine students that might need additional support from our counseling department. Results indicated that the majority of our students feel connected to CIMS and also can name one or more trusted adults. Counselors and teachers are supporting students who indicated that they do not feel connected and students who cannot name a trusted adult.
