There are many different types of poems and devices that are essential to a poem.
Types of poems
Over the years various forms of poetry have been created. Such as accrostic, haiku, list, sport, concrete, and limericks.

Accrostic poems take a word and define it by starting a statement with each letter

Poetic Devices
Poetic devices are the key to compiling a well written poem. Without them a poem would be messy. Some poetic devices are metaphors, rhyme schemes, similes, imagery, alliterations, repitition, and personifications. Metaphors are direct comarisons, while simles are comparisons using like or as. Rhyme schemes are using a pattern of rhyming sounds. Repititions repeat sounds and words.
Personification
This device gives human traits to animals, objects, etc. Example: The sun's rays waved at me
Alliteration
Aliteration uses words that have the same beginning sound. Example: Sally sells seashells by the seashore.
Imagery
Imagery usues the five snses to create a picture in your mind. Example: The sweet smell of the cookies wafted from the yellow kitchen to my large room.
