R-E-S-P-E-C-T - Find Out What It Means To Me!!!
This month Hazelwood School will focus on the character trait respect. Students will participate in class discussions and activities around the word respect. Students should red on Monday, October 3rd to kick-off Respect Week!
Our school counselors will also be implementing a variety activities of for the Week of Respect which is October 3rd through October 7th. School counselors will lead the following activities:
- Kindergarten: Respect for Others
- 1st Grade: Respect for the Environment
- 2nd Grade: Respect for Self
- 3rd Grade: Respect for our World

In addition, classroom doors will be decorated with student’s work as it relates to the lessons being taught.

Activities, Books, and More about Respect
- Have students discuss the word respect (where it is shown, how it is shown, to whom it is shown, etc.) as well as how important the behavior is.
- Read a story that involves respect issues. Create a dramatic play based on the story.
- Ask students how they like to be treated. Discuss the importance of treating others with respect. Use examples such as being polite, letting people be different, and giving others personal space.
- Create cartoon strips showing respectful actions.
