Important Update - J.B. Fisher Summer Families
Dear RPS Families,
We have learned that a student(s) and/or staff member(s) at J.B. Fisher has tested positive for COVID-19.
Any individuals who were in close contact, as defined by the Virginia Department of Health as within 6 feet (with or without mask) for 15 minutes or longer during a 24-hour period, have been notified directly. If you have not been contacted, your child was not in close contact and is not considered exposed.
Please reach out to your primary care provider if you have any concerns, or contact the Richmond City Health District (RCHD) by calling their COVID-19 hotline: (804) 205-3501. Please also continue to wear your mask, stay physically distant if you are not vaccinated, and wash your hands.
Our number one priority remains the health and safety of our students, staff, and families. Towards that end, we will continue to work in close collaboration with RCHD to ensure the well-being of the entire RPS community.
If you have any questions, as always, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Health and Safety Precautions
In order to ensure the safety of our students and staff, below are some FAQs to read prior to entering summer school.
Will staff and students be required to wear masks?
All PreK-12 students AND all staff are required to wear a mask at all times while in the school building, EXCEPT when eating. Students will be distanced to the greatest extent possible while eating and should replace masks when finished. Unvaccinated individuals must wear masks when outside at recess unless they can maintain at least six feet of distance.
Will health screenings be performed each day?
Families and students should perform a self-check at home each day before reporting to summer school using the following wellness screener. Students who exhibit any of these symptoms should stay at home.
What happens if a student shows symptoms of an illness at school?
Students that present with signs/symptoms of infectious illness (including COVID-19) will be isolated from other students and staff in an effort to minimize transmission. The school nurse will evaluate the student in the school’s clinic. If a student displays additional symptoms, parents/caregivers will be notified to make arrangements for pick up.
RPS works in collaboration and under the direction of the Richmond City Health District (RCHD) to perform case investigation and contact tracing of all positive and probable (by test) cases of COVID-19. Plan(s) of action will vary on a case-by-case basis.
