Potter's 40th Anniversary Celebration

On April 25 the H & M Potter School celebrated its 40th anniversary with a walkathon, ceremony and carnival. It was a fun filled day!

The walkathon raised money for scholarships for former Potter students who will be attending college in the fall. Congratulations to the recipients Erin Pepe and Brian Logsdon.

The 40th Anniversary ceremony was a very special way for current and former Potter staff, students and families to celebrate this milestone. Many special guests attended including members of Mrs. Potter's family, and Mr. Paul Polito who was the principal of Potter School from 1980-2001. A tree that will be planted near the gazebo was also dedicated.

The day ended with Potter's annual carnival. A fun time was had by all who attended. There were games, activities and prizes throughout the day. Thank you to the PTA, all who helped to organize these events, and to those who joined in this very special celebration!

Appropriate Clothing for Spring

We have been asked by many of the parents about spring clothing and as the warmer weather quickly approaches, children’s attire sometimes becomes an issue. Warm weather clothing should be appropriate and safe for a busy day at school. Opened toed shoes and shoes without backs, such as sandals, and shoes that are not tightly secured can be unsafe on the playground, walking up and down stairs and walking down crowded hallways. Additionally, our school is air conditioned making some summer shorts and tops not warm enough for the classroom.

As always school attire is up to the discretion of the parent. Safety, order, and discipline is at the discretion of the school. Please help us keep your child safe and warm enough in school this spring.

Good Food+Active Bodies=Kids Equipped for Success!

Research is showing that kids who eat healthy, nutritious foods and participate in even moderate exercise like walking increase brain activity and can even score higher on standardized tests. To help Potter students learn to make healthy food choices, kindergarten and 2nd grade classes were treated to classroom visits from two of our community health partners.

Dr. Bernard Visits Potter

Ms. Walstrom and Mrs. Donachy's kindergarten classes enjoyed a visit from Dr. Bernard from the Meridian Health Pawsitive Action Team. Dr. Bernard talked about the importance of staying healthy by eating the right foods. Students also learned about portion size and were encouraged to look at the ingredients of the foods they eat.

Registered Dietitian Presentation

All of our 2nd grade classes received a healthy eating presentation and a healthy snack from a Perlmart Shoprite Registered Dietitian. Giovonna Carbonello, RD spoke to each class about using MyPlate to build a healthy diet. For more information about MyPlate resources, go to ChooseMyPlate.gov,

Nutrition Bingo

Nutrition Bingo was introduced at the Potter Carnival this year and parents and students seemed to have fun playing along and learning about healthy foods. We continue to have daily wellness updates on our morning announcements including the healthy lunch choice of the day.

Mobile Dentist May 26th and May 27th

Send in your registration forms if you have not already! All students who were seen in November 2014 are automatically on the list again for a cleaning and dental exam. If you do not want your child seen again by the Mobile Dentist this school year, please call the nurse as soon as possible. Dental health is so important to your child's success and health. Please take your child to the dentist for regular cleanings and checkups.

Extra Clothes

Reminder.... Continue to send in a full set of extra clothes for your child in their book bag! Accidents and spills happen. A child's own set of extra clothing saves parents and teachers so much time during the school day.

REMEMBER to THINK Healthy EAT Healthy and MOVE Healthy! Healthy students learn better!
