Physicals and Forms OH MY!
All students in marching band must complete this process before they are allowed to participate !!!
WE MUST HAVE NEW (AFTER APRIL 1ST, 2021) UP-TO-DATE PHYSICALS ON FILE BEFORE YOU CAN PARTICIPATE ON JULY 26TH. ZERO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE FOR THIS.
CLICK BUTTON LINK BELOW TO CHECK IF WE HAVE IT. (WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT WE HAVE)
It must be completed on the official MISD form, electronic version ATTACHED HERE (CLICK), printed forms are available in the band hall and can be picked up at any time
***IF YOU ARE ALSO IN ATHLETICS AND COMPLETED IT FOR ANOTHER SPORT OTHER THAN MARCHING BAND, MAKE SURE TO GET YOUR COACH OR TRAINER HUTTO TO SEND US A COPY FOR THE BAND.
FORMS (UPDATED INFO, COME ONE, COME ALL)
During registration you were given a google doc that combines the Band forms (handbook acknowledgment, social media policy, 8 hour rule) and the traditional Rank one forms (Random Drug testing, travel form, emergency medical form).
We just received notice of 6/30 that all students participating in marching band in McKinney Isd will need to complete the forms AGAIN through Rank one.
I will be sending information on how to do that as soon as the details are set and we have re-created our rosters in that system.
While I know this is frustrating to us all.... in the end, it never hurts to have duplicates in an emergency medical situation.
We will need the new rank one forms and the McKinney Boyd Band forms ALL signed in addition to the Physical before students can participate on July 26th.
UNIFORM TEAM LETTER: READ CAREFULLY
Hello parents and students!
It’s marching season! We are SO looking forward to a normal season this year!! We’ve missed you all and can’t wait to see your faces again!
Like we do every year, we will be fitting for formal marching uniform, gloves and shoes July 21-23 (see hours on the sign up genius). These fittings are MANDATORY for EVERY student. Unless you have made prior arrangements with us, you must come on one of these days.
USE THIS LINK TO SIGN UP FOR A FITTING TIME or CLICK ON THE BUTTON BELOW: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080E4AACAF22A1F85-formal
Parents of returning students: PLEASE have your student try on their marching shoes from last year. If they do not fit, we need you to order them under “replacement uniform items” in membership toolkit. If I do not get an order for shoes, your student will not get measured. DEADLINE for shoes orders is Monday, July 19th. If shoes are ordered after the deadline, pricing will increase to cover shipping overages.
Please reach out if you have any conflicts or questions. Email us at:
Thank you all for sticking with marching through these past two crazy years! Here’s to an amazing state year and fantastic band!!

Summer Band: What you need and how to prepare
WHAT YOU NEED:
- All forms and physicals turned in and completed!! This includes Rank one as well!
- Name or initials on all items so they don't get mixed up and can be returned to you if lost.
- An INSULATED water bottle (New bottles were paid for by your fees, will distribute ASAP), Camelbak systems also work well but do not count as a INSULATED water source
- Marching instrument w/ a towel to put on outside
- Flip folders and lyres with PLENTY of extra pages (25 pages suggested) and all your music (music available on boydband.com under media page)
- Breathing tube (Wind players only) also known as a 3/4" Compact Ball Valve
- Shorts and tennis shoes are an absolute must! (Read below for more specifics)
- Light colored shirts (must be within school dress code)
- Sunglasses and Hats
- Sunscreen 30 SPF or higher
- Snack or lunch if you do not plan to go off campus during our break.
- Your best attitude and smile
HOW TO PREP:
Summer Band is fun and not to worry about but here are some things that we have learned after years of experience that can help you succeed the first couple of days.
**REMEMBER WE HAVE OPTIONAL THURSDAY CAMPS FROM 9:30-11:30AM JULY 8TH AND JULY 15TH!!
#1: GO OUTSIDE STARING NOW AND ACCLIMATE TO OUTDOOR ACTIVITY
Video games and TV binging can be fun in moderation, but it will be a big shock to your system if you are not used to going outside and you can become disoriented very easily without acclimating beforehand.
#2 HYDRATE THOROUGHLY WITH WATER STARTING AT LEAST A WEEK BEFORE YOU WILL ATTEND CAMP
It takes time for your body to become fully hydrated. If the first day of camp is when you start you can become dehydrated within hours so substitute that soda/juice/dairy for some high quality H2O about a week in advance. Aim to drink half of your body weight in oz throughout the day (no more than 120 oz.)
#3 INVEST IN A HIGH QUALITY PERFORMANCE SHOE (SAUCONY, BROOKS, NEW BALANCE) AND AVOID BOOTS AND CONVERSE. ***NIKE/UNDER ARMOR CAN WORK, BUT OFFER LITTLE SUPPORT FOR MARCHING ACTIVITIES
Most of our injuries are due to improper footwear choices. The brightest and coolest shoes may be fashionable but your knees, back and neck will thank you for a shoe with proper support. There is a "Run On" shop at Eldorado and Lake Forest, They are pros at fitting proper shoes to individual foot styles.
#4 WEAR LIGHT (COLOR AND WEIGHT) CLOTHING
Students in pants and all black will be sent home immediately. It will be a cheaper and easier ride than the ambulance after a heat exhaustion attack. Don't Mess with Texas (heat/humidity)!!!
#5 AVOID DAIRY IN THE MORNING TO AVOID A "SIDELINE SHOWER" (SHAKES/PROTIEN INCLUDED)
No more explanation needed here :) Have a light breakfast healthy breakfast option that will be easy on your stomach (eggs, toast w/ peanut butter ect...)
Communications update: Join BAND APP
While remind is still going to be the primary means of communication for the summer. We are going to transition to the BAND APP.
It is more user friendly, free and can do more things for us moving forward. Here is the link to join our Marching band "class" (includes parents/students)
Hey Band, join our 'McKinney Boyd Bronco Band' group on BAND - The app for groups and communities!
**WE WILL CONTINUE TO USE BOTH APPS OVER THE SUMMER AS WE TRANSITION INTO USING ONLY THE BAND AP IN THE FALL TO LIMIT COMMUNICATION GAPS

Thursday's during the summer

Students can take lessons, practice or meet with their sections for student led training sessions (a Band Director will be on campus).
NEW THIS YEAR!!!: 9:30-11:30 EVERY WEEK
Student leaders will be inviting sections/individuals to meet them at Boyd to help:
- Condition (acclimate to warm/hot weather and strengthen endurance)
- Run Music Masterclasses ( stand tunes/show music/prep for pass offs)
- Run Marching Masterclasses ( anything/everything we didn't get to cover at Mini-Marching)
- Socialize (build better connections and bond)
